Givin a pot of boiling water and an equal amount of ice in an identical pot in the same location, which will reach room temperature first?

Given boiling water at 212 F. ice at 32F. and Room temperature at ~70F. I'm guessing that the ice will reach room temp first, since the temperatures are closer.

Counterintuitively, hot water freezes quicker than cold water. It's a rather famous physics final question used to ensure that few students get A's. (BTW, it has to do w/condensation and evaporation).
You question relating to room temperature, is somewhat different, (and I don't recall ever learning about this in any science course) but I would hypothesize that the boiling water would reach room temperature first. (Although the evaporation rate would be slower than boiling to freezing, and the corresponding loss of volume would be less than 26% I'd guess the boiling water.

So if hot water freezes quicker, does cool water boil faster than hot water?

the horde king is right...the reason the boiling water reaches room temp first is as follows:
the molecules of boiling water are moving faster than the molecules of water at room temp or even below (ice cubes). some of the faster moving molecules penetrate the surface of the liquid and leave the liquid, even when the temps of the boiling liquid fall below the boiling point. consequently the molecules that are left behind in the liquid phase have a lower average kinetic energy thus decreasing the temperature in order for the bucket of ice to melt their average kinetic eneergy must increase before they can melt thus the boiling water will cool faster than the bucket of ice

So if hot water freezes quicker, does cool water boil faster than hot water?
according to theory id say the answer would be no because in order for the cold water to be brought to a boil its avg kinetic energy of the molecules in the water need to be increased which requires more energy than the amount required for hot water to boil since the molecule sin the hot water already have higher avg kinetic energy...then again what the hell do i know im a moron...im a mets fan for Christ's sake

Equal volume of ice or equal volume of water turned into ice? Either way, until all of the ice is melted, the ice and the water around it are going to be at 0 degrees, whereas as soon as it stops boiling, which will be as soon as the temperature drops below 100 degrees, the boiling water will stop boiling and all of the water will decrease in temperature together.
Also, it takes about the same amount of energy to melt a volume of ice as it does to warm that resulting volume of ice to boiling. Logically, then, to get to room temperature, the boiling water has less energy to dissipate than the ice water needs to acquire to get to room temperature.

i've heard that too, but always thought it was bullshit....but admittedly never tryed it, because it seems like a no-brainer. if water freezez at 32degrees, water that started out at say200degrees would take alot longer to get to 32 than water that started out at 40degrees. if anyone knows different, please explain it to me, cause i'd like to know.

I thought Wadd's question was gonna be somting like " I made a really big mistake by starting a story game which quickly got outta hand when people started bashing me, and now they wont stop. How do I stop this without using a time machine to go back and fix it because I dont have one of those?"
