I am a lifelong yankee fan, but over the past 2 seasons, the Yankees have not been able to do what they used to do in the mid and late 90's. I remember they would come back from behind so many times, they would get clutch hits when they needed them. They seem to rely on the long ball too much and their bullpen isnt what it used to be.

The problem might be that there are too many big name players on the team.

Kinda makes you think when the #1 rapper is white and the #1 golfer is black

Matsui: 3 home runs & batting about .270. Everyone is saying what a complete player he is, but he's got a lot to prove as far as I'm concerned.

Godzilla my ass.

The Yankees are now the exact kind of team they used to routinely beat ine the playoffs before last year. The used to be sound defensively, they didn't rely on the home run, and they has the kind of offense that could score runs on any kind of pitcher. They used to be able to wear pitchers down by taking pitches, drawing key walks, moving the runners up and scoring on key hits. Now they still take pitches, but the mindset is more of get on base and wait for the Home Run. That will put up huge numbers in the regular season and get you a first round defeat in the playoffs when you face top notch pitching and can't get home runs. See the Oakland A's, who couldn't get by the Yanks and last year couldn't even get by the Twins.

After seeing the Angels one game during last year's Division series I knew they'd win it all. They were exactly the team the Yankees used to be, albeit it with slightly worse pitching. But their pitchers were on a roll.

They were almost a mirror image of the 96 Yankees. Garrett Anderson = Paul O'Neill. Tim Salmon = Bernie Williams. Francisco Rodriguez = Mariano Rivera. Troy Percival = John Wetteland.

The Angels have fallen back to Earth this year because their pitching is back to normal. But if they get hot and get back in the Playoffs, they'll beat the Yankees again. And the A's.

no they werent. last year's angels hit like no other team ever did in playoffs history. the same cant be said about the '96 yanks.

the yanks rely on the long ball as much as anyone else. they have no 'magic' because they have no bullpen. they lost the last 2 years because of their bullpen. thats it.

We can all only hope that they lost their magic.

BTW, how many damn Yankee threads do we need?
