Good book I agree - you might try to draw a comparison between it and M*A*S*H the series or the movie.

I say compare it to Pokemon. The teacher will either think you're insane or very creative.

the illuminatus trilogy - robert anton wilson/robert shea
hitchiker's guide to the galaxy - douglas adams
clockwork orange - anthony burgess
the crying of lot 42 - thomas pynchon

lot 42 and clockwork orange are much shorter

Try "All Quiet On The Western Front". Probably the only other great novel that's as blatantly and skillfully "anti-war" as "Catch 22", but from a completely different angle, both emotionally and dramatically. Good luck!

Try comparing the emotional wreckage of war in
Catch 22 to the physical and emotional wreckage
of war in Dalton Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun. A
book I highly recommend anyway. You may be famiiar
with this novel from the old Metallica video "One." That
video was based on the movie made from the book.

If you go to amazon.com and look up the book, you can
read 28 pages of it online with their "Look Inside"
feature.

How do those relate to Catch 22 at all? Regardless, I'd stick with Mojo's suggestion.

hey guys thanks, i ended up using Platoon and All Quiet on the Western Front.

The anti-war themes in both were great, but with platoon the seperation of race was easily comparable to Yossarian's dis-like of everyone in his squad, which he later on learns to love, kinda like the rednecks getting along better with the black guys later on in platoon (before they all got overrun)

Snowden also is comparable to Sgt. Elias as a symbol of the way war works, and innocence lost.

Thanks guys.

Good call on both counts, Reed. You get less than a "B" on this one, and there's hurtin' to be doin'...

those books are all similarly surreal and deal with contradictions or dehumanization.

Catch 22 deals more with un-written laws (law of catch 22) and de-humanization (Bombing runs to clear foilage, to take pretty pictures of explosions.) It also uses the comedic appeals so it can tell a gruesome story, and make it acceptable and bearable to the reader.

All Quiet deals more with the effect of war on a young, innocent mind. Remember that during WWI, the nations went happily to war, in awe of thier military power after the imperialist 1800's but found out how bad modern war really was.
