Funny Cide to race for triple crown at the Belmont

Is ne one following the road to the triple crown? I just started following horse racing and it's kind of interesting. I still can't get over the fact that a gelding is a horse without balls. ouch. Who do you think stands in Funny Cide's quest for winning at the Belmont stakes? Ne one know what a beyer is, cuz I haven't been able to figure it out. i think it has to do with a horse's speed or something.

Two words: Empire Maker.

He's rested, and he wants revenge. The Preakness is not a highly regarded race by owners, its not worth hurting your horse in a race for 600,000 dollars, if they didnt win the Derby.

At the Belmont, all the big name horses are back, and its gonna be whether or not Funny Cide gets good position, he has the speed, so do about 5 other horses in that race.

No one cares about horse racing, its so incredibly boring.

And from what i see on sportscenter, horses come close to winning this triple crown all the time and they never actually do.

So funny cide isnt gonna win and all you people who care about horse racing need to get a hobby.

First horse to win the Triple Crown in 25 years ( i think) will get a 5 mil. dollar bonus.

It may be Funny Cide's hometrack but he had a great start in the K. Derby, and some of the top horses got stuck in the pack, and never got to make a move.

It all depends how they come out of the gate, if Funny Cide is a leader out of the gate, then his chances are high, that is if he can beat Empire Maker again, or hes stuck in the pack.

i know plenty about horse racing....first word was horse, not a joke....picture of myself in the winner circle when i was 8 days old (was my grandfathers horse)

he actually started out as a ridgling which means that one of the testicles didn't hang, it was stuck in his body, therefore the surgery was prob. necessary

the main thing though is that he'll never breed. If he does indeed win the triple crown that alone will prob. cost him 10 million dollars in stud fees. What a shame...it really is.

okay, i follow harness racing more than thoroughbred but this is what i understand about "The Beyer Method":

Andy Beyer came up with this system of rating the horses based upon 'speed'....this does not necessarily mean how fast they run....It has to do with judging a number of horses that may have raced at various tracks on a level playing field. The reason for this is that some racetracks are quicker in time than others(called track variants)

For example, maybe an average 1 mile race at Belmont will go 1 minute and 40 seconds while at Churchill downs it will go in 1 minute and 42 seconds. Therefore, when a horse from each one of these tracks happens to be in the same race there needs to be a method of putting these two on equal terms so that the public doesn't think that one horse usually runs 2 seconds slower than the other horse.

Smooth move trying to break earlier huh? Well i was off by one horse. my logic is that the 2 favorites wont finish 1-2 or people would be hitting exactas all day long. So i take the 3rd favorite and bet it to place, that was dynever. In this case the horse with the 4th best odds placed. Whatever

Kudos to Funny Cide even though he didn't win (and neither did I). It just proves how hard it is to win the triple crown. Funny Cide gave us a good ride while it lasted. Here's to you. Thanks for making horse racing fun for everyone.

what a fun day was had at the Belmont....sure it was raining but when you've got a tent and over 200 beers nothing will stop you from having fun....the whole day i said i was gonna bet against funny cide but i got caught up in the moment and decided to go with the favorite...oh well i lost money but i had an overall great time

I had the winner 3 weeks before the race too =) and i never changed my pick. Empire Maker could have won the triple crown, he just needed better position at the Derby, and the preakness would have been a joke.
