So I've heard everyone else's opinions but I'm surprised no one has brought it up here. Or maybe no one on the board cares about golf and this thread will die a painful death.
Either way, what do you think? She finished up today shooting a 71 at +1.
I for one think it's great that she's playing and I hope she does well. I think all the men wo hate this have their panties in a bunch over nothing.

Even though there has been an LPGA for many years now, I don't see the need for her to play in PGA tournaments. However, since golf is a non-contact sport I don't see the problem for this to happen in selected tournaments.
Now let's see Lisa Leslie post-up against Shaq.

ok. Since wnew died, the only station I can stand listening to, as well as the only interesting talk radio station, is ESPN radio.... that said, She's catching up with Lebronn James on the "people I'm sick to death of hearing about" list.
It's overblown, and it's more people crying about not having enough equal rights.
My Opinion? it's a private, invitaional tournament, most people aren't Invited, nobody else is crying about it....

People watch golf? Are they the same people who watch bowling?
If women want to play in the men's tournament, have a blast, just don't expect a high paycheck when you are done. She would probably get paid more for finishing higher in the women's division then in 36th place in the men's division. I don't see why they can't let all golfers play together, that way there isn't too much TV coverage to ruin my weekends.

Golf isn't a contact sport, I don't think it should matter if a woman plays on the mens tour.

As long as she actually qualifies (not a sponsor exemption or whatever), and as long as she plays from the men's tees, i have NO problem with what she is doing.
But does this mean that men can play on the LPGA? because they should be able to, if anika can play the PGA. But i dont really care, thats just semantics.

Golf isn't really my game but I heard on a sportscast today (WABC radio) that althoughshe is allowed to play in a PGA tournament, the LPGA is still resisting having male golfers play in their tournaments- I think that what is good for the goose.... if you know what I mean!!

it's not having my panties in a bunch and i'm not sexist by any means (i love women cause they bang me and stuff) but she did NOT qualify for this event or any event on the PGA tour therefore she doesn't belong out there with other men. if she had gone to Q school, got her tour card and all that stuff then fine, let her be there. but the fact of the matter is she didn't and because of that she doesn't belong.

I first wanted her to win to prove golf isnt a real sport but then I realized we'd never hear the end of it I changed my mind. I want her to finish dead last and to be humiliated in doing so.

i personally dont like it when genders mix in sports.... and i'll leave it at that coz i'm sure whatever i list as reasoning will be dissected and taken the wrong way.

Well, I think if you're good enough....then you should get the chance to play with the best.
At the same time, I dont think see'll be able to hang with the boys.

I understand this point, but I think what alot of us don't know is that this happens all the time on the tour. Sponsors can get players through without having to qualify so if this is the case I feel they have the right to do it with her.
I honestly think this is more a case of wanting to do this for HERSELF, to measure her game against the men and not to just beat a man so she can say she did.
As for men playing on the women's tour, it seems kind of stupid. It's less money and not much competition. That's exactly why she wants to prove to herself that she's as good as she SEEMS against the women.

Absolutly, and I guess what I failed to mention before was I don't care who it is (man or woman) if you didn't qualify to be there then in my opinion (which is worthless to the PGA Tour anyway) you don't belong there. It doesn't matter if it's Annika or the 7? other exceptions they handed out, those people don't belong there. If she, or any other excemption, had gone to qualifing school then it'd be a different story because in that case I don't care who they are, they earned their spot to be there so they deserve it.

I hope Sorenstam playing in this tournament doesn't end up with an outbreak of cooties on the PGA Tour.

They're just a bunch of nancy boys who feel their masculinity is threatened if they get beat by a woman. Just consider her as another athlete (if you want to consider golfers athletes) and if you get beat by a better athlete, accept it. Manon Rheaume got her shot in an NHL preseason game. She couldn't keep up with the guys and that was the end of it. If Annika doesn't belong then she'll get beaten and that will put the whole thing to rest.

I could care less if she plays with the boys. If she can out perform them, more power her way. She looked solid on the back 9 and was a tad bit shaking on the final 9 but overall, one over ain't too bad.
Hey Vijay, too chicken to face her at matchplay? Oh no a girl might beat me, like Dr. Phil would say, "Get real!" See who's better... who cares if she is a female?

I think winning every women's event she is in more than qualifies her. SHe has been much more dominating than even Tiger Woods has but has gotten little recognition.
She proved yesterday that she belongs there and she can still make the cut. Why would men play on the LPGA tour. The PGA tour is supposed to be so superior. She is at a disadvantage playing against men. If they are so much bettert han her, than she should fail miserably and finish last. She is not and still has a chance to qualify. If she can beat men, than you know what maybe those men should put on some panties and skirts and quit the PGA and play for the women's tour

The PGA Tour rules have no gender requirements, while the LPGA specifically states golfers must be female. If the PGA guys have a problem with it, they should change the rules and call it the MPGA, otherwise they should accept that she's playing within the rules.
If the PGA rules had stated males only however, I would be against her playing. I can't justify women "gender busting" the guys and not the other way around.

ugh, they're still talking about this! I want to throw my radio out the window!
Can there possibly be anything more dull than Dan Patrick talking about golf on the radio???
ok, aside from Leykis and Limbaugh...
But come on, NHL Eastern conference final game, Nets about to sweep, Yanks have half their roster in the ER, and there's always something funny happening with the mets, enough with Annika already!!! (and Lebron too, I can't beleive I'm sick of this guy before he's ever even played a single NBA game. I hope he breaks his leg in the off season, and never plays a game...)

So she didn't make the cut, putted poorly, and was tied for last for GIR, but yet the media still won't let this go. It's cool she got the shot and all, but when you break it down, she proved she didn't belong there.

It's OK as long as she gives complimentary hand releases to the boys in the back.
