Can Rory really be that cheap that he feels he doesn't have to tip? Does he really think he will get free drinks by not tipping and only then will he give any extra? Being a former bartender I can tell you he would be a very thirsty person in our bar. He would be avoided like SARS. Obviously we would serve people that tipped us. Sorry just had to rant. He just pissed me off.

Charlo did you make 2 bucks an hour or more as a bartender?
I don't have a problem tipping on good service or adequate service, but I will and have stiffed a waiter if I have to hunt them down all around the restaurant to get my food, drinks, or the check.
Another thing that pisses me off in a restaurant is when they never clear the plates from the table. I hate sitting at a table full of dirty plates.
I am not cheap but I do tip according to the service I receive. Generally 20%.
We need everyone to keep spreading the word about Ron and Fez. Get you friends, coworkers, hell anyone you talk to get them to listen.

Good service or not, Rory is a skinflint heartless bastard who only looks out for himself.
He's a one way street, this guy.

Was he reading from this guys script
http://www.dvdempire.com/Graphics/Movies/214047.jpg
"I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's fucked up. That ain't my fault. It would seem to me that waitresses are one of the many groups the government fucks in the ass on a regular basis. Look, if you ask me to sign something that says the government shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And as for this non-college bullshit I got two words for that: learn to fuckin' type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big fuckin' surprise."

Actually at the time I was bartending, I think I made $2.13 an hour. Most of the checks that I got paid with were non negotiable due to the taxes & insurance they take out. We were all working for tips. That is just how it's done. We had to report all of the tips we got on credit cards and at least 10% of our cash sales as tips. Rory's claim that bartenders/servers should go to college or find other jobs is uninformed. I will guarentee & this may sound bad but I was most likely making more money then than he does now with his college degree. I've since moved on to management and work in a fine dining steak house and we pay our servers $2.38 an hour. They are very well trained in serving. They take pride in the service they are providing as well as the product but get frustrated when guys like Rory stiff them after waiting on them all night.
Sorry for the long rant but that is the way it is.

The Rory cheapskate thing is just a bit, isn't it?
Didn't the boys do this bit once before with Al Dukes
playing the cheapskate?
I distinctly recall something like this, with Joe Poo
arguing with Al because he used to be a Pizza delivery
guy...
Is my memory correct? Does anyone else remember
this? (is this just a recurring bit with whoever is the
current producer... maybe they did it earlier in Florida
with Tuttle - but this is before my time...)

Yes, Al did play the "cheapskate" with his cousin's wedding, then said he didn't tip AT ALL.
Something tells me, with Rory's background, that he would be more prone to tipping.

first time poster, long time lurker.
just heard the 5.23 show, thank to the underground, and got heated during hampton's rant. what a dick, but not unusual for people coming from wealth.
rich people tend to view the working class as working for them. a long time bartender, i've worked some huge/ expensive events. bartendered the us open, and my worst day of tips was when the upper crust of the corp tent i was working was there.
i've worked $70K bar mitzvahs, and been stiffed for a tip by the host. wasn't because they were jewish, it was because they were north shore long islanders.
really it's working class joes who understand the struggle who are some of the best tippers, or the most consistent. rich people only throw their money around to impress other rich people.
rory's a scumbag for thinking like this, and bartenders aren't putting their balls in his drink, but he will be the last servered and his drinks will be weaker. if you want good service, you pay for it.

I happen to be well-schooled in terms of Etiquette, and it is in good form to tip the required mininum of 15% for any kind of table or bar service. However, if you were happy with the service, then an extra 5% (20%) is in order.
Not for nothing, many bartenders and food workers are usually working their way through school, or need something to pay the rent right away while they are looking for other means of support. I feel that Rory should never put down a person making an honest living just because it is a bartending job. Also, alot of celebrities' first jobs in the City WERE these types of jobs!
