Which Is The Better Phoenix?

I'm watching the movie Quills and it has Joaquim Phoenix in it, and I was wondering, who is the better actor of the Phoenix's, River or Joaquim. Of course River is dead, but which one of these has better acting range. I've seen Joaquim in enough movies now that I think he's the better actor over all. Of course had we had the chance to see River do more adult roles it would've be easier to determine, but I still think Joaquim is a better actor.

Everyone should see "My Own Private Idaho" to see how good River Phoenix was. Not to mention, Keanu really shined in that one, too. i was going to say this exact thing, nearly verbatim.

this is a very tough question. joaquin was great in movies like "quills" and "to die for", etc. river was great in "stand by me" and "private idaho", etc. both are (well, was, in river's case) incredibly attractive and have (had) that so-called "star power". it's really a difficult question, and a talented family. it's just a shame that river's gone.

The more I think about it, this is tough, because I remember My Own Private Idaho being very good. I'd have to see it again, but I remember liking the movie.
