There are only 9 pics there. The above links listed a few hundred. They were killed in a very cowardly fashion. http://www.israel-wat.com/parent_eng.htm There are hundreds of pics on that site. Not only of people killed, but of the desecration of holy sites.

I think it's common knowledge that people on both sides of this issue are being killed on a daily basis. I also think that it's never going to stop even if these peace accords do get accepted by the majority of people in the Middle East. There are always going to be those that can Never accept that the other side (either Israili or Arab) are simply existing. Hatred begets hatred and that part of the world sure has enough of it to go around. But on the other hand, we simply cannot throw our hands up and surrender. The effort must always be made to find a peaceful solution that is considered fair to both sides. The day that we stop doing that is the day that we might as well nail our coffins shut.

The first story seems like GOOD news, because it means Sharon is willing to step up and do what needs to be done, despite the complaints of the people who are willing to settle for things as is and allow people to die.

The second story even says it itself...the plan is to sideline Arafat and deal with the "new" members of the Palestinian government. Good. The more Arafat complains and/or supports terrorism, the more he'll isolate himself and make him an easier target to take out.

I would be surprised if Arafat was able to prevent this plan from happening for long. I believe Sharon has fully concluded that there is no other option, especially since Bush won't give him any other. It's too bad you are so pessimistic about what's happening HB, because this is the most progress that has ever been made with this issue. I know that the Palestinians will never stop the bombings, but this could at least give Israel more ground to stand on (and an obvious recourse) if a Palestinian State exists.

Progress has been made in the past, and it has often taken little to mess everything up. But it does seem like Bush is really pressuring Sharon behind the scenes, to which I say finally! Good job! I just hope Sharon's own party doesn't overthrow him.

I saw an interview with the Palestinian Labor Ministry on Fox News today where he literally came out and said that they (the Palestinian) people want this road map thing to go forward because they can't wait to elect Arafat as their President / ruler. They ain't buying Mazza as their Prime Minister. Arafat is still pulling all the strigns, no matter what, and as long as he's in charge - and I doubt that will change, save for a well-placed bullet through his goddamn head - the terror will NEVER cease.

Please don't twist what I said. I make false assumptions often myself, but I was NOT suggesting that Israel roll over and just give Plaestine whatever they want. On a whole, the Israeli approach in the last few years has done nothing to either better or worsen the situation. BUT, they are NOT the only ones who needs to take the steps towards to peace. But in my mind, in a situation like this, the first that side that does bite the bullet (Let's hope not literally) and step up (And someone does need to come forward...what's wrong with being the better man?) and say, "alright, what can we do to fix this" has the guts to do what needs to be done and ultimately will hopefully end up saving lives on BOTH sides, which should be everyone's utmost goal. I don't view this as "giving up" (BOTH sides will need to make sacrifices...nothing is concrete yet) and instead have nothing but respect and admiration for Sharon and those that support them for, because outside of them the "other" people seem to only want to tolerate the miserable situation as it is or even escalate it.

I heard an unconfirmed report today that the reason Sharon seems to be so much behind this is that Bush threatened Israel with economic sanctions. Don't know if that's true or not, but if it is I think it's a fairly ballsy and positive move for Bush to make. Now if he would put the same pressure on the Palestinian side to try to restrict bombing...
