Has anyone ever read these books? Right now he's only finished 4, but there are three more left to come out.
this is the greatest piece of literature of all time. better than any adventure ever, star wars, lord of the rings, the bible, this book has got them all beat.
i know no one reads on this board but there must be some stephen king fans. i don't even know where to begin to explain what it is about, but hopefully some smart poster will be able to shed some life.

Man, I've enjoyed King here and there, but this does NOT compute.

I am ALL about the Dark Tower series. If you go www.stephenking.com - there is a redesigned excellent section devoted entirely to the Dark Tower. There is even an audio passage to the next installment read by King himself.

there is none cooler than Roland.
And yes, it was inspired by the poem by Browning (for all you lit geeks out there)

I'm waiting for all the parts to come out before I get involved again. I read the first one 10 years ago and forgot everything.
I think I remember it being good.
He is my all time favorite author.

It is a good series, although I don't think I'd quite go as far as to claim that it's better than LOTR, or the Bible, etc.
But King has done something incredibly cool with this series. Over the course of his 30 year career, he's included numerous references to the Dark Tower series inside of his own books, and characters from his novels (such as Father Callahan from Salem's Lot, who will be a character in the 5th DT book) have crossed over into the Dark Tower universe (as King's Earth is part of the hub of worlds in the Dark Tower system). The regular novels are connected to the Dark Tower series, and vice versa. Very cool. It brings most of King's voluminous work and ties them all together.
