I've got a bonafide, actually-diagnosed by a psychiatrist case of OCD.

The strange part is that I share two of Fez's OCD traits, my pillows MUST face a certain way on the bed and my socks MUST be just right before I cn put my foot into my shoe. If the sock shifts while I am putting my shoes on, I have to start all over again.

the sock being "right" by the way, means the seam must be either exactly across the tip of my toes or just under my toes. I buy Thorlo socks or WigWam socks because the seams are smooth enough to not feel them once my shoes go on.

I have a bunch of other things. I must check my stove three times before I leave to make sure the gas is off...not once or twice mind you, but THREE times.

But the pillows and the socks things, I share with Fez. That may frighten Fez more than it frightens me. :)

On the USA network.
America's defective detective.

But seriously, everyone is compulsive about something.

I for one, look both ways before I cross the street. It's called being safe.

This is sick. Fez is talking about symmetry; one of my OCD kinks is requiring that things be "even." Also the OCD girl on is talking about color-coordinating her crayons in the box; I had to do that too, organize them all by hue.

Why do I have ALL of the OCD things? They're tyalking about things that are making me go "me, too" that I never even thought to tell my shrink.

Maybe I shouldn't have discontinued my Paxil.

Ginny, you're an arranger and a checker. Two of the 5 major catagories of ocd.

(The other 3 are doubter/sinners, washers and hoarders).

I've always said that my mother suffers from obsessive complusive disorder literally.

She CANNOT see things where they should be. She has to have that hoarder/washer thing. She washes dishes and then fucking puts them to dry on like my washing machine instead of the dish rack. She always brings the mop to the bathroom but the toilet, instead of where I always put it.

The fucking most annoying things she does is that she spreads around sheets of Bounty paper towels in every room withing hands reach as if it would be completely impossible to go to the kitchen and get a bounty sheet if something spilled. It's not as if I live in a fucking mansion, its a 2 bedroom about the size of a closet.

Ginny,
I sympathize with you. My wife suffered from OCD and at first it used to annoy the crap out of me until I realized that she couldn't help herself. There wasn't much I could do to help her except to support her and show her that I understood what she was going through. At times, it was sheer horror for her since she couldn't relax because she wasn't sure if she had gone through all of her rituals. She went through hell at times- but I still loved her!!

HK, can you give examples of each? (Just to be sure I'm not suffering from OCD as some have suggested).

I have a minor compulsion to count things, as well as check that the gas stove/gas grill is off (as in turn the knob off 2 or 3 times over a couple of minutes) - not sure if this counts

My mother in law has a form of this, but it's more of a nervous thing. When she's upset or worried she'll clean my entire house from top to bottom with 1 paper towel, and then rinse it out and put it out to dry. I've also witnessed (over a period of 1/2 an hour) her move something from 1 counter, to another, then come back in 3 min, and move it back; repeat 2 or 3 times.

I think it just gives her something to do to take her mind off of things.

Guess I'd better contact my physician, a mental health professional, or a patient advocacy group (such as, the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation, Inc.) to obtain more information on OCD and its treatment.

is OCD Genetic? or is it caused by being touched by your neat uncle instead of the sloppy drunk, which causes prostitution.

Don't worry HK, I'm a hoarder too.

I horde schoolwork. I have a large box filled with school assignments of mine...dating back to kindergarten. Not a simple "aw, tht's a cute picture, let's save it" thing...actual assignments.

Not everything I ever did, but one or two things from each year that I felt needed to be retained for futyre reference, even though I've never needed them.

I did/am doing the same thing for each of my three children.

I also kept newspapers from every spot I travelled to with the carnival, and compulsively take photographs of the family. I've got literally every moment of every holiday documented. There's like 170 pictures of this past Christmas season alone, we had 4 get-togethers and I liberally photographed each.

Thank God for digital images. I have a 10' long wall in my den with bookcases, that is mostly family photo albums. I really don't have enough room for more pictures. I've started putting pictures on DVDs that I get from Photoworks.

The funny part about my photography kink is that in all of these photos I'm probably in less than a dozen of them, because I'm always the one behind the camera. You really couldn't prove that I'm a member of this family, judging from the photo album alone!

I save stuff in large plastic boxes. I have large plastic boxes in the attic, shed, under beds and the sofa in the den. I have things from every job I've ever held. I save all correspondence. It causes me grief to have to let go of old electric bills that I paid years ago but I know that if I DON'T toss them, I'd be one of those crazy people you see on the news who can't move around in their own house.

All I really need to complete this picture of nuttiness is about 4 dozen cats.

**edit** make that a 10 FOOT wall. eep.
