As well as no more 20,000 leagues under the sea. It took a nose dive...a ghheee gheeee gheeee.
The one ride that still stands the test of time is the haunted mansion. It still scares the Bejesus out of the Mongloids. Some comedy gold I was lucky enough to witness the last time I went to Disneyworld.

Maybe I've finally just gone insane, but I just saw the extended trailer for this film, and it doesn't look half-bad. Sure, it looks pretty stupid, but I think I'd have a good time at it.

I'll probably see this. The plot looks kinda thin, but really, what can one truly expect? It'll probably be a good popcorn movie.
Plus it has a good cast. I'll watch any movie that stars the sexiest tomboy beanpole on the planet, Keira Knightley!

I saw the movie this weekend and thought it was really good. Johnny Deep was great as the pirate. With all the disapointing movies this summer, it was refreshing to finally see one that was well made and entertaining.
PS. I also saw League of Extrodinary Gentlemen and was very disapointed.

I saw the movie this weekend and would recommend it for sure. Definitely an entertaining movie from start to finish and worth the money compared to the crap that has been out there this summer. And if you don't like swashbucking pirates, that Natalie Portman look-alike is hot as hell.

The early trailers gave me the "Batman & Robin" feeling. The one I saw at Reloaded turned my friends around, but I still had to get over my gut feelings.
I saw it tonight, and I have to say that I was dead wrong. It's a good swashbuckling movie with a few homages to the ride. Watching Johnny Depp play a permantly plastered wackjob was the icing on the cake :)

Nothing great or classic, but Depp and Rush were fantastic. Depp was hilarious playing Kieth Richards as a gay pirate. Killer.

you can't except that, but zombie pirate curses make sense.
Personally I say that as soon as you allow someone to be shot, stabbed or blown up without dying you also have to allow them to hold an upside down boat underwater to breath the trapped air.

For those who saw the movie, do you feel it would be frightening to 10 and 11 year olds?
They want to see it, b/c of the damn Disney ride, but the preview, made me question the appropriateness. How scary is it, in your opinion to young kids?

I would say not very scary, it's played more comedic, but it also depends on the children.
And yes, I can accept the curse, but not the upside down boat. :p

Johnny depp rules. Forget the underwaterboat - I wasn to know how he got off the rope he was sliding down with the chain if his hands were bound together and it was secured at the end.
They should have called this movie "Monkey Island: The movie" - it had a stupid young protaganist, his competent with a sword & likes pirates chick, skeleton pirate with a gay hat, and a trash talking black pirate chick.
And don't forget it had a monkey, too!

SO I finally saw this movie and I really liked it, I love when action movies throw in the one-liners and sarcastic remarks, it's good not to take themselves to seriously.
And about the underwater boat, are you talking about when they were walking on the bottom of the ocean with a canoe over them? Well, I know what they did probably wouldn't work, but it's semi-feasible when you think about early diving bells. Get a bowl of water and turn a glass upside down and press down. There's still an air pocket in there, I don't know the phsyics or anything when done with a canoe, but it's something to consider.
Denis Papin
Many different diving bells were tried over the years. They all had the same problem in common: How do we get fresh air down to the bell ? The Frenchmen Papin came with the solution in 1689. He designed a diving bell that was supplied with fresh air through flexible hosepipes and bellows. A truly fantastic idea but there was one slight little problem: The bellows of his time did not have enough strength to press the air down to the bell. Bummer.....
Edmund Halley
The English scientist Edmund Halley came up with a different solution in 1690. He invented a way to force pressurized air down to the bell. Why does this air have to be pressurized ? Take a glass, hold it upside down and push it down in a bucket of water. The water pressure will press the amount of air together. This happens also when you lower a diving bell in the water. Every 10 meters the pressure will go up by 1 atm/bar. When you lower a 3 meter high diving bell to 200 meters, the remaining layer of air inside the bell will be about 15 centimeters ! Halley attached empty barrels to the diving bell. A hole in the bottom of these barrels let in water. The barrels were attached to the diving bell by flexible hoses. The divers could let the air in by turning a faucet. The pressure was equal to the amount of water moved by the bell. In this way, the pressure inside the bell stayed the same as the surrounding water. Halley tried his invention several times. He stayed below at 20 meters depth for more than 1.5 hours without suffering any bad consequences. Halley also came up with small bells to fit over the divers head, with air supply from the diving bell. However, he soon found out that it was not possible to breath in the surrounding high water pressure. John Lethbridge came up with the first armored diving suit. Have a look at the Armored Diving Suit section to learn more about this.

but a diving bell requires weight to pull it down. The weight of two people would (a) not be enough and (b) definitely not enough to push them all the way down to walk on the bottom.

It's a movie with walking skeletons for christ sakes! And undead dead people. Why are we even arguing about the underwater walking boat scene is beyond me?
Now the curse of what became of the pirates after they stole the gold, sounds true to me.
Think HAPPY thoughts. Welcome EVERYONE! Ron and Fez love you..............No this is not a cult.

That's why I said I couldn't explain it because I was not clear on all the logisitics of a diving bell and didn't think it was probable anyway. Although I did ask my boyfriend the same thing when we were watching it and he gave me the very simple glass in a bowl of water explanation. That was good enough for me.
But like everyone said, it's a damn movie. I didn't understand what boat Depp appeared on that was underwater (when he was first shown) and then we never see that underwater ship again? Or did I miss something. I have the bootleg DVD so I think a few scenes got skipped.
