Finally there is a judge that has the courage to stand up to the ACLU. Sultana Freeman the woman who converted to Islam sued the state of florida because they revoked her license due to her face being covered.
The ACLU argued that it was her religious right to cover her face, but the Judge ruled that national security is definitely more important.
The person in that photo could have been an al-quaeda member.
Speaking of the ACLU, they have got to be the biggest hypocrites in the country. The same people who want to take one nation under god out of the pledge of allegiance because they want church and state to be separated come to the defense of a muslim woman arguing over religious freedom. Score a victory for the state of florida

It was likely that she was going to lose. Still, I'm glad that there weren't any suprises, i.e. her pulling off an upset win.
BTW, I think she lost a lot of her public support (from those who may have championed her cause) when it came out that she had been previously arrested for beating the shit out of her foster kid.
I saw her mugshot for that arrest. Trust me, she's hotter with the veil.

Damn right.
And it was only added in the 50's as part of the "Red scare" to seperate us from the "Godless commies." Who cares? It existed longer without it. Leaving "under God" practically makes it a prayer, and nothing is gheyer than praying. You're not GHEY...are you?

Please don't tell me you think she should be allowed to wear the veil for her photo due to her "religious rights."
As for the ACLU - in the beginning they might have been out to do some good, protect some vital civil liberties. Now they're just out to push a fucking agenda. You want to make sure that someone's religious rights are protected? Fantastic? Suing a school to force them to change the name of Christmas break to "Winter break" just because someone MIGHT be offended by the name of Christ? That's fucking FASCIST. Which is par for their course lately.
Leaving "under God" practically makes it a prayer, and nothing is gheyer than praying. You're not GHEY...are you?
Unless you're, you know, religious, and believe in a supreme deity, as so many millions of Americans do.
And hey! "Ghey" is my word! You're ripping me off, hoo hoo hoo.

Unless you're, you know, religious, and believe in a supreme deity, as so many millions of Americans do.
But not all of us are. And the thing wasn't written that way to begin with. Outside of the fact that some of us believe in that God, is there any other reason it should be there? The pledge was designed to pledge allegiance to this COUNTRY. Throwing God in there is essentially asking anyone who says the pledge to also pledge to "that" God. It diverts from the true, original and honorable intentions of the pledge itself.
"I believe in America." And God didn't have a damn thing to do with it.
And that's good enough for me.
And as for the ACLU, ultimately a judge/jury has to allow their often inane and bullshit lawsuits to pass. As long as people remain sensible or manage to grow a pair, it's really not a problem. People like to point at the ACLU as some kind of "source" for the social problems of today, when in the end all they can do is waste time and money, and most of it is usually theirs.
Started out as a good idea, but ended up going horribly astray...

i think the point is the the majority has to bend to the minority, which seems to be undemocratic. granted, things like nazism arose from the a growing support of a majority, but you have to factor in spiraling socio-economic conditions.
if "under god" is ruining your life that much, it might be time to re-evaluate yourself. just bc you disagree with it, doesn't mean it applys to everyone else in society.
"under god" doesn't necessarily agree with me, but i understand it is important to a lot of other people. and believe me, there's bigger priorities in my life than that dumb fight.
what it boils down to is that there are way too many fucking lawyers. they will back any cause, only cuz they get paid in the end. i am all in favor of raising the standards of the bar exam and rid society of some of these ethicless/ unscrupulous fucks. get in the coffin and die.

Of course not, but I certainly don't think that dending her, and defending the people ostracized by having under god in the pledge is hypocritcal.

Driving is a privelege, not a right. Sultana Freeman can cover her face while driving in a middle eastern country not in the US

if "under god" is ruining your life that much, it might be time to re-evaluate yourself.
"Ruining my life?"
It's really quite simple.
The pledge's original purpose was to create a pledge of allegiance to the United States of America. Throwing "under God" in there not only makes it that, but a pledge of allegiance to THAT God. Not "a God" or "MY God", but clearly "the" God of Christian faith. But ANY of those ways, the pledge becomes both a patriotic oath AND a public prayer. I have no problem with public prayer. People can pray to whatever and whoever and whenever they want (Except in school and government buildings, unless in the privacy of a seperate room or office. These are public, universal institutions where religion has no place, unless the social/historical impact of it are being studied), but when prayer essentially co-opts something that existed for nearly 65 years as a simple. effective and noble patriotic pledge, there's a problem.
I want a pledge because I'm proud of my country and I deserve it and I wish to express my loyalty to it. Again, WHAT, exactly, does God have to do with that? There is simply no reason for "under God" to be in there except to very clearly endorse THAT God over all other Gods and express it/him as "THE" God of America. "Under God" DETRACTS from the very reason the pledge was written. This has nothing to do with "changing" something to be PC...this is going back to the ORIGINAL, official writing BEFORE it was changed by overzealous, God-fearing Knights of Columbus buring the "Red Scare" of the 50's.
Here we are in a thread that very rightly emphasizes that one's religion does NOT take priority over the state or country itself. You don't get to pick or choose. It's not, "oh, we need to keep these religions seperate from state/federal issues...except when it's 'our' God!" It's ALL religions. PERIOD.

I pledge allegiance to my Flag and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
