The Rockefeller drug laws

Recently ive been hearing activists and Hip Hop and rap stars calling for the repeal of the Rockefeller Drug Laws. Does anyone have more info on this law before i make my opinion on this?

Even the guy that helped draft them is part of the movement to lobby to amend them.

They have been used in New York as a form of leverage to try and get accused drug dealers/users to testify against higher ups in the drug supply chain. Unfortunately, most people would rather serve 15 years in jail than die of retribution. The other problem, is that some people just don't have anything valuable to offer prosecutors and therefore cannot plea out.

This links to an Op-Ed story about the laws. I'd find some information in favor of them, but that wouldn't serve my opinion and I have to mop.

another major problem with them is they dont give judges enough leway in judgement, so in effect non-violent recriational drug users serve harsh sentences no matter how much common sense a judge may have.
