If people like Alec Baldwin, or Susan Sarandon, or hell even the Dixie Chicks, were to actually run for office - any political office, really, even something as low on the totem pole as for their local board of supervisors - I wouldn't be nearly as annoyed by their political rantings. Because instead of just sitting back and bitching about how things aren't how they want them to be, they'd actually be out doing something to change things directly.

As for his chances of getting elected, you are right, they are embarrassingly high because of Gray Davis. But you are telling me that Calfornia can't find ONE person more qualified than Arnold Schwarzenegger? And you actually want this to happen?

He's probably just testing the waters. I'm sure the Republicans will find someone more qualified. But if they go with Arnold, will I be upset? Hell no. If Ventura can win a major office, Arnold should have the right to at least try. Because that IS democracy working.

Him winning as supposed to Davis in charge again? Yes, I do. Arnold can't do a goddamn thing WORSE than Davis. Hell, all he would have to do is pick a really strong lt. governor to help him with making the tough decisions.

And if he did run, and did win, the Dems would have no one to blame but themselves. I know guys who live in Cali, who are liberal enough to give Five a run for his money, and they hate Davis with complete passion. That's not to say that they would vote for Arnold - but they would likely NOT vote for Davis.
