my theory...
Hillary's new book is nothing but a publicity stunt to put her in the public eye, clear the past, and place herself centerstage to run for president in the next election...
and I think she is gonna win.
does anyone agree or disagree???? Cause I am scared

Sadly enough I got to agree tompoo. People are stupid and will vote for her. I'm still wondering why exactly it was that she got elected in NY. Ask any person why they voted for her....chances are they don't even know her policies and views. It's scary. People should just elect celebrities and stop kiding themselves.

Rick Lazio was the reason people voted for Hillary.

Well, the real question is what country she'll be running in.
You cant forget that most of this country isnt like New York. Sure Southern Florida and most of California and lots of the North East will vote for her.
But the South, Midwest and South West will not vote for her. Mark my words.

Shell run, she wont win. I dont want to bring back the pain but remember 9/11, where the fuck was she, nowhere to be seen thats where. Pataki and Guiliani were out there, visiting the sites, thanking the firefighters. And if you remember that VH1 thing about the hereos of that day you saw how bad she got booed. So i'd have to say she would definitly not win.

So NY and Cali and the rest of the "coasts" will vote in someone like Hillary...but the middle of the country will essentially ONLY vote Republican, no matter who the candidate is, JUST as long as he's Republican, and remember, it HAS to be a "he", and he must be white and Protestant...NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.
Alright then.
There are apparently no smart voters left.
ANYWHERE.

I'm still ambivalent about Hillary. And yes I voted for her, but not so much for her as against Lazio.
Everyone hates Hillary so much, but I haven't been able to figure out what specifically she has done that makes her so hated. The again, I don't exactly follow politics. But as I mentioned in another thread, I hear about her all the time on conservative talk radio shows where they're bashing her, and it always seems like they're upset because she's so vocal about her agendas when half the other senators are sitting around picking their asses.
Yeah, so she's essentially a republican in democrats clothing. So what? Is that why people hate her so much? Becuase she straddles the line rather than sticking to the strict, antagonistic (and I'm already on record saying how stupid and useless and pointless and retarded it is) division between "republican" and "democrat"?

Well, no, actually, there are few people on this earth who fit the description "piece of shit" more accurately than Hillary.

If you think she's a Republican in Democrat's clothing, you REALLY don't follow politics closely.
ONE of the reasons why people don't like her is because she's inherently shallow in a lot of the positions she takes. This would be what you're talking about not "straddling the line". It's not so much that - it's just that she sticks her finger in the air, sees which way the wind is blowing, and that's what she bases her opinion on at the moment. Now, granted, most politicians do this - but not so egregiously as Hillary. She'll be for a position, UNTIL she finds out it's not politically favorable to a portion of her potential constituents, and then she'll do a complete 180. She does this A LOT.
She's dishonest as well, and doesn't hold herself as accountable to anyone. She lies outright and then denies it. She lied about many of the things she supposedly did for the victims of 9-11 following the disaster. Claimed she visited certain events, raised funding, etc., and then a book was published (by a LIBERAL, one of her good friends) which totally exposed everything she had claimed as a fabrication (I forget the name of both the book AND the author - if any of you out there knows who I'm talking about, please help out).
And, of course, there's the fact that she's extremely left-wing and neo-socialist. This goes all the way back to the 60s (and the thesis she published which, for some inexplicable reason, is not available to the public). If she were ever elected to the presidency, she would try and bring in socialist iniatives such as resdistrubition of wealth and all of that other stuff which essentially goes against our capitalist society.
She's dangerous. I wouldn't put that label on too many people, but I would with her. Some of you people quake in fear of Ashcroft? I live in fear of what would become of us should Hillary ever get that kind of power. Hopefully, I think there are a good number of people out there who aren't so enamored with her and Bill that they realize that she shouldn't be given such power.
But then, hey, I thought the people of New York would be bright enough to not elect her, and I was proven horribly wrong before.

Well see, that was the thing. I can't figure out what what is so inherently repellant about that. Doing what the public wants... isn't that what your representatives are supposed to do? Represent the public will? It almost seems more honest to me than going out and preaching to your constituents what you think they should and should not believe.
But then, you're right I don't really follow politics at all. In fact I think I follow them essentially through this forum and occasionally listening to WLIE. I honestly don't have much of an intrest in them. I was probably just thinking about her backing the war and all and spoke without really thinking about the republican thing.

the main reasons are:
> she's a woman
> she speaks her mind
> she's a little overweight
Politics is still a "man's world" for the most part and i bet if you took a poll, a majority of woman would be for Hillary and a majority of men would be against her...
just my opinion...
personally I like her, but then again...

That it no where near the truth.
I'm ambivelant about her in many ways, and most of the time can't pinpoint why I find her to be so distasteful.
But, as a senator she is active, present and truly involved and commited to her service to NY state. She went to bat for New York when 911 occurred and has not stopped.
I think she can win. I don't know if I want her to win.

I have no problem voting for a woman as president, but itself something about Hillary I do not like it is more instinct than anything else. I would rather vote for hillary's daugther, orBob dole's wife or anyother woman running for president. Perhap I might change my mind, but for right I do not see my self ever voting for hillary

I see what you're saying and I agree somewhat, but basically the way she does it shows how incredibly shallow she is. I can't think of any examples off the top of my head because it's late and I sort of blew my wad in another post. But it'd be something like....I don't know, showing up at some sort of function for the Jewish community, and saying how much she supports them, etc., and then she'll turn right around and talk with Palestinian groups about how she wants a Palestinian state and an end to Israeli occupation. She plays both sides of the fence, giving you the impression that she doesn't necessarily favor either side on an issue, she just wants both sides to support her enough to give her support or votes or whatever.
All politicians do this to some extent, but she's just worse than others, etc.
But that's actually probably one of her LEAST offensive character traits. The woman is maybe THE most polarizing force in all of American politics.
Here's an interesting thought - what if we wind up with a Hillary vs. Rice ticket come 2008?

I've heard MANY theorys that this was her plan. Try to make sure Bush gets re-elected so she can run for an open presidential seat in 08. Granted it's a Right Wing theory, but it seems to fit in my mind.

There's some truth to this. A substantial portion of Democrats don't even know who the hell Howard Dean is, and he's probably in the top 3 of the 384 candidates for the Democratic nomination.

But he does a legitimate question. I don't want a solely socialist society, but socialisim has been deeply rooted in parts of our government for most of our history. Our government has and has had quite a few socialist aspects and programs for quite some time now. Countries like Australia and Great Britain and many of the "nordic" Western European countries are quite heavily inundated with socilaist programs in addition to more traditional "democratic" stylings. These people are our allies (Usually) and aren't falling apart any worse than we are. What's with all the scary talk?

Nowadays, the Third Way has been used by many European nations. It basically combines aspects of socialism with a parliamentary style government. Who really needs democracy or a republican form or governement? The US only supports/aids non-democratic, human rights abusers anyhow...right? Why practice freedom when you can practice capitalism.

This just in http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/06/09/hillary.dems/index.html. Hillary "praising" Gephardt. She's said recently she won't run for President in 2008, and of course who believes she'll keep that promise, but there's still another possibility: VP. It's doubtful that and Dem will win in 2004 (even they are starting to think that), so a Gephardt/Clinton ticket in 2008 could be seen as quite strong on name-recognition alone. Not really sure Hillary would take the co-pilot seat for this, but it's a possibility.
