I am watching the parade on TV. There is a sea of puerto rican flags but yet very small amounts of american flags. I am all for celebrating heritage but why do people forget about the american flag? On a lighter note, some of the finest looking women in the world are gathered on 5th avenue. gotta love those mamis

Fuck the American flag. The ative Americans were raped of this land. Out of any race on the planet they were pushed to the brink of extinction. Unless there is a Native American on this board people should calm the fuck down when someone doesn't fall to their knees and kiss the American flag. While we are "liberating" people in other countries, we should be thankfull that noone liberates the Native Americans from us. Sorry for sounding upset. I just hate when people get mad because the American flag isn't given any attention. It doesn't stand for shit to me.

Like I said, the Native Americans were pushed to the brink of extinction more than any other race. You can't compare slavery to the complete slaughter of a people and it's culture. Even speaking as a Jew who has had 6 million of my people slaughtered. I can ask my black friend's family about their history or ask my own family about the Jewish history. Yet, have to buy a ticket to a museum so I can see a Native American. This is just my opinion. I don't see why someone living in this country should be obligated to wave a flag that stands for hypocrisy and and occupied land.

It is a day to celebrate the culture of the Puerto Ricans, and I can understand why the flag of their homeland is the dominant one being waved today.

However, there is no need whatsoever for such asinine and ignorant comments such as "fuck the American flag."
To say such a thing is tantamount to pissing on my grandfather who was combat wounded in WWII, my uncle who was an Air Force Pilot in Vietnam, and my Father and his two brothers who both served in the Marine Corps.

With the summer job my brother is starting, he, my father, my mother and myself have all worked or still do work for the CIA. And for the record, we serve the American government, not the American flag. We respect it, and we proudly fly one outside of our house every day, but never for a second do we assume that we work for it. Because that would be crazy.

I guess it all comes down to opinion. I personally don't care about the flag. I'm sorry if it may sound disrespectful to people who may have died or been hurt in a war. I have people in my family who have been killed or fought in wars too. Knowing someone who fought in a war isn't going to change my opinion about waving a piece of fabric that is sold on a corner for a dollar.

We should probably curtail this flag talk before it takes over yet another thread.

People have different feelings towards the American flag. But in the end, it's not a religious symbol where people are ALL required to think about it a certain way. That's kinda the beauty of what the flag itself represents. For every person who dismisses the flag as not really being that important, there's someone who's willing to cherish it as a very part of the country itself. Checks and balances, I guess. In the end, it would probably be pretty damn boring if we all thought the same way over anything.

And besides, I saw plenty of people defacing the French flag in the past few months. I'm not too fond of them myself, but didn't people suffer and die for that flag, too? Eh, we're just all too messed up...vive la difference.

The fact is that its Puerto Rican Day. Their not going to waive German flags, why would they waive American Flags? Trust me, on July 4, theres going to be more than enough flags to make up for this.

i'm puerto rican and i honestly sometimes feel my people take for granted what we've been given but...i always remember this statistic i read in the paper once puerto rico has a very large percentage of people who volunteer for the UNITED STATES ARMY...no not the puerto rican army the united states army so forgive them if they want to wave the flag for maybe a week or two they're used to carrying both flags most of the time. god knows i'd rather live here than pr but that doesn't mean i love and land more than the other. fact is puerto rico is practically a state just some formalities in the way
