View Full Version : An Apology

I'd just like to take an opportunity to apologize for my appearance on the show Friday. What a rambling, stammering fool I was. At the time, I thought I was making sense and that the 3 hours of drinking that I did before hand had no effect. But I just listened to myself today, and I was a mess. And not even in a funny or even mildly entertaining way. I still had a great time being there and the guys were fantastic as usual, but to the listeners, I'm sorry.

<font color=purple>Knowing that you did Friday's show, I burned it to CD earlier today and just finished listening to it on my way back from the Jersey shore.
You sounded fine and made lots of good points. I especially enjoyed the pep talk you gave Billy. Dude, you rock!

1. You sounded fine; and made good points, if you didn't they wouldn't have left ya on air!
2. Chris can now speak from experience how your World changes in front of a Microphone. Thoughts that were lucid and flowing get caught into the vortex of sheer stuff happening around you in the studio and BOOM... next thing ya know, you're blanking out, not following the flow, forgetting what you were about to say, and then finally, when your mouth opens, a series of 'umm' and 'errrs' and 'ya knows' and 'like' and the worst, absolutely blanking out in the middle of a sentence AS you are saying it. And one second of silence seems like a day.
I believe someone here once mentioned about calling in [DMM?] and ron asked a really simple sports question, about a coach I think, and the person just totally f-ing blanked on the name. And the person knew about, or was a fan of, this coach like Fez knows wrestling. It just happens.
I listen to myself after i call in, and even while I'm talking and all I can think is, 'this sucks...I suck...my comment stinks... why did i bother calling...' and then I listen back and I'm even WORSE then I thought!
I can get it together now, but it takes a conscious effort to slow down and focus on the topic and Forget about How you're going to sound.
3. Holy over-analysis by me, and you Chris!
Rule 1 in radio: the least important thing is simple mistakes. I've done a lot of small-time radio, and when I f-ed up a live read ya know what? I just kept going. You hear DJs still harp on the fact that they made a mistake; and ya know what? 99.999% of the listeners either didnt hear it, or dont give a damn. And F the 0.001%!
4. You want hard on yourself for not being good on-air? Welcome to R+Fs world; from my very little experience with both of them; I did see one thing; these guys are Hard on themselves. Ron's said it on-air; the ride home with fez + whoever; everyones quiet, and you Know they think they Sucked Ass. They wonder how anyone would even consider listening again. This is me imagining, but from my cheap seats; those guys are hard on themselves.
5. I must use the phrase 'hard on' more often...seeeeya!!!!!!!!!!!

You're gonna have to do better than that Chris. Get on your knees in front of me and grovel, then I'll think about it.

Chris, there's no need to feel self-conscious or to appologize.
You sounded fine. Better than fine actually. You made sense and were funny.
Sometimes it's weird to hear your voice on the radio. That's most likely the source of your discomfort.

I just listened to the segments you were on. Honestly, you have nothing to worry about. Your appearance went well, you were interesting, and you didn't appear to be at all uncomfortable or out of sorts. I don't know you, so I feel no need to pump your ego up after a bad appearance. If it went poorly, I wouldn't have posted.

OK. Thanx everyone. I guess I think I mightve been better able to muster up the right words had I not been drinking beforehand. But youre all right, I didnt make a fool of myself, and it's natural to second guess yourself, and this appearance went WAY better than my 1st (x-files trivia), and above all, I got to hang out and share the airwaves with the best in the business. I'm feeling much better now. Thanks.

WHAT? What rule book are you quoting? You say one wrong thing and it stays with you for life...

I wish I could sound that lucid when I've had a few. Usually I get roughed up by bouncers and wet myself.
