I'm attending my state convention this week, and am running for office this year (I've been told I'm a glutton for punishment). The problem, though, is that the politics in the organization I'm in sometimes seem worse than U.S. politics. Though I'm not a big fan of politics, I understand it is a necessary evil of almost any organization, and I do my best to be fair to those I am running against, and everyone else in the organization.
I haven't been on the messageboard much in the past year, mostly because I've been out campaigning. You never realize how big the state is until you're travelling from one end to the other and find out that you've put almost 10,000 miles extra on your car for the year. I must've attended (and paid for) a dozen rubber-chicken dinners, several memorials, scores of meetings and other functions, in order to be able to answer questions, talk about my ideas and let people know what I'm about.
This Friday the 13th I find out whether dedicating 7 years of my life to an organization, working committees (4 successful ones this year alone), raising money for programs, etc. is sufficient to get me the votes to beat someone with much less experience, who ingratiated himself with "The-Powers-That-Be".
I'm not really superstitious, but I need some luck to go along with all the work I've done- maybe more because of the date :)
Win or lose, I'll be back on the message board when this is over, and I'll either be in a pretty good mood or pissed off for a while. Either way, the drinks will be flowing Friday night.
