Vos on NBC's 'Last Comic Standing'

The premiere of this new reality series began last night. They had an hour of 25 West coast comics who were then narrowed down to 10. Then an hour of East Coast finalists that also got narrowed down to 10.

The final 20 go on to Las Vegas to compete next week where they'll pick 10 of them to live in a house (and I guess just compete against each other the remaining time.)

Anyway, Vos was in the East Coast group and they did a little 2 minute profile about him before he went on stage. Norton had a little cameo (he didn't talk but you saw him). He was pretty good. He bad mouthed Canada in his set and one of the judges (Caroline Rhea) is from Canada so it was pretty funny. Check it out next week!!!

I saw it too. The show pretty much blows, but Vos' 8
seconds on stage were great. I liked the Buffalo/Canada
joke. The thing that sucks about the show is that they give
you 10 minutes of background about each comic and give
you their life story, and then you get to see them actually
perform for like 14 seconds. Eddie Pepitone from Conan
O'Brien was also there... as well as *cough* Mecurio

I liked the show, but it was so obvious who would get in. They did Bios on everyone who got in, so it was like whats the point, your telling me whos in, theres no shock value.

But there were some funny people on the show, and I think it has potential. They just need to show more of the comics, less of thier life.

I was a little disappointed to see so many "known" comics on the show. Granted, theyre not household names, but many have been on national tv before. And the gay guy who got caught "parallel writing" shouldnt have made the top ten. Next week though, east coast vs west coast! I'll be watching.

The most hilarious episode of Tough Crowd was with Jim Norton, Rich Vos and Patrice O'Neal. I thought I was listening to another episode of O&A. Simply amazing how those guys constantly mess with each other.

Tonights episode was funny. At the end, during the credits, the gay was talking to one of the winners and he said, "Make sure Rich Vos gets out. Vos needs to be first." And there was a woman in the background nodding in agreement.

He only won because all the free tickets were given to unwitty 20 year old college students who sit around and enjoy Biodome over and over again. they only show about 2 minutes of their whole act. the same thing happened last week. it seemed like they showed the worst part of Ralphie Mays set and he got like 80% of the votes. they must show longer clips as the show goes on and it would suck for us to hear the same jokes each week if they did show the best part of the sets now. earlier clips of Dat before the 10 were chosen were real funny.

my love for this show has dwindled after tonight's episode. i can't believe that Dat Phan won. His entire act was like a male Margaret Chow or Cho or whatever her name is. somebody knows who I'm talkin' about.

I'll jump in with everyone here and agree that Dat is awful and Dave was probably the funniest guy in the house, and it's too bad he lost.
At Caroline's on Saturday, the 8pm show was Vos, Dave, and Corey Kahane- they all were great, but Dave absolutely killed that night. On the show last night, however, you could tell he was just a little bit off; he wasn't 100%. The funniest fucking part, though, was that all 3 of them spent part of their act making fun of Dat.

I don't think Vos is going to win this one. The main problem here is California - Land of the extremely sensitive. Please don't upset them with your humor or insult them at all. Vos's act is great on the east coast, but it won't translate as well on the west coast. I still want him to win.

Ah, but the finals are in Vegas. And that's a whole different vibe than SoCal. Vos will do well in front of a good Vegas crowd.

Plus, Dave mentioned on the RadioChick show last week that the last episode is going to be live and that NBC was doing a bad job by not making that clear.

Dave was 100x's better than Dat. Obviously the audience was fixed. I have completely turned around on my opinion of Vos. He Dr0pped the funniest lines of the night when he cracked on Dat for having an ethnic advantage in the picture taking competion and took the picture of the turban dudes for the FBI.

I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything, I wasn't there and if I was there I was asleep.

I think we saw the other 5 minutes of Dat's act last night because he did a few call backs that had nothing to do with the act they showed last night. This may be good because I have a feeling that Dat has shot his load and won't have anything new for the 5 way showdown.

Geoff was comfortable on stage, but his act seemed disjointed.

I think even thought Vos may not have any new material either, but I think they only showed one joke of his on the tryouts so everything else will seem new to the viewing audience.

I think the Fat guy and black chick may be his only competition in the finals but that's just because of the characters they play.

Dat was bad, apparently his mother is really funny, but he just sucks ass. If he wins I'm never watching NBC again.

Ralphie was going for the Robert Deniro approach to comedy, repeat everything 600 times until you get your unfomfortable laughter.

vos is the only comic without a gimmick. That's the only reason i'm voting for him. Ralphie does fat jokes, Dat does asian jokes, and Tess does black woman jokes. And Cory's not funny. If they give Vos a sitcom though, i bet it will be about a single father with two daughters and it will be quite stupid. And quite cancelled. Ok, I had a thought that worried me, esp. after seeing the live crowd react to Dat last night. I think that it's possible that, inadvertantly, all the other comics picking on him and putting him down may have turned Dat into a "lovable underdog" type with many of the viewers. He could win on sympathy, or a sort of backlash.

The others may have handed Dat the victory by making everyone root for him to get back at them.

This just goes to show you how much the majority of America wouldn't know humor if it bit them in their fuckin' ass.

I bet the show was rigged by NBC because they figured that Dat Phan would be the best person for a new sitcom. I mean look at him. A bland, overused act combined with a Vietnamese background. Why, that sounds almost like something unique and new for a new tv show. Everything was going to be something that was already done (except for Dave and Rich. But I don't think that they would've wanted to take a risk with something new and edgy. They just wanted the money).

This is why I don't watch reality shows. Cuz they don't truly show reality, and when they do you realize how much reality sucks.

Everybody slow down a sec... Dat is NOT getting his own sitcom. (Though, how he will come up with 22 minutes worth of act for a Comedy Central special, I do not know.)
The prize is an "NBC Talent Contract," which doesn't even guarantee anything except that he can't go on TV on any other network. If they decide to use him, it'll probably be in cameos/guest roles, or at BEST a bit regular part on some crappy sitcom like "Good Morning, Miami" or "Happy Family."

Let's face it: Dat's material was not very good. He did have energy on stage, don't get me wrong, but he's not very funny.

But to win, you don't have to be the funniest...you need the most votes. Much like Ichiro and Matsui winning starting spots in the All-Star game due to online voting, Dat was able to win. Just a theory, but one worth a tiny bit of consideration.

Frankly, I'd be more offended if Tess won.

I think Dat got a lot of sympathy votes because everyone in that house treated him so condescendingly. Remember when Tess won that challenge and got to be on Access Hollywood? She said something like Dat will be gone next. The hide-and-go-seek stunt, and Mike saying how Dat hasn't said one funny thing.

tough crowd was good last night. the last question was what should the premise for a Dat sitcom be. Vos said it should be about a good looking, aging jewish guy (i think he said jewish?!) that has 2 great daughters and rents the basement of his ex-wife and her new husbands house and everyweek people come to cut the grass - thats where Dat comes into the show.

It was funny.

I'm watching the Last Comic Standing Marathon on Comedy Central right now. I missed a couple episodes and now I still can't believe Dat won.

Rich Vos' act wasn't perfect but it was pretty good and the best out of the final 5. Hopefully just the exposure on T.V. will help him.
