View Full Version : Your Local Resturant

This was a show topic, and I was wondering, what Resturant everyone claims to as thier own, local, favorite resturant.
Mine is:
Capital Q BBQ
707 H St. NW DC
Its authentic Tex/Mex BBQ and the Beef Briscuit is great. I was in there one time and i asked for it, The owner tells me hes outta it, So i says, "Ill just wait" then he says, "Grab a Seat, it takes 6 hours to make."
Check it DC guys, and if your from NY and your in Town, its pretty damn cheap for a good BBQ sandwich.

I have two.
Phoenix Garden on 40th & 2nd (I think) is the absolute best
cantonese food in the city. They used to be down in chinatown
but the place burned down and now they're up by the UN. I
always order the same things: pepper and salty shrimp, special
squab with lettuce leaf wrapper, young snow pea shoots with
crab sauce, stuffed hot chiles with black bean sauce, and beef
chow fun. The shrimp are the BEST. I think I have finally
perfected how to make them at home :) It is BYO (makes it
much cheaper!)
Shabu Shabu on 70th and 1st - absolutely (but not necessarily
by FAR, I mean Nobu ain't bad!) the best sushi in town; I don't
know why it's always so empty! Get in with the owner (who is
the sushi chef; his wife is the bartender) and he will hook you
up big time on the good shit like o-toro and uni.
I've been going to both of these places forever - phoenix garden
for probably nearly 20 years (I started at the original location,
then they opened a place in NJ we went to for a while, and then
when they opened up in the current location we started going
there) and shabo-shabu for probably ten. The ownder of phoenix
garden is a crabby old man who always says when I call for
reservations "I think I know you!!!" and he's always right, and
the owner of shabu shabu dressed up in a bunny costume and
sang to me on my birthday!!
oh yeah at shabu shabu the best sake (cold of course) is the oni
shitaburui.

One of the few things I miss about LI. Damn! The good old days. What I'd do for a Cajun Burger or Mikes Marinated Steak Sandwich right now, and playin a lil Golden Tee '04 or 11 ball.

I live on LI and have heard about this place. It's the place with the "marinated steak", right?
What exactly makes that steak so special. I wanna try it.

The Cajun Burger is ridiculous, I like that they put it on a poppy seed roll instead of a bun.

When you're up in Pelham Bay in the Bronx, Got to go to Giovanni's for Italian-makes the perfect lasagna. Also, if you're into seafood. check out the Lobster Box in City Island. They still make the best seafood paella that I've ever had!!!

My favorite place in DC is a sushi bar in Adams Morgan. I
have loved this place since the late 80s. Great food, great
atmosphere, rooftop dining in the summer, and on Sundays,
they have something called the "Drag Brunch," where the
customers are serenaded by beautiful drag queens.
Definitely not to be missed.
But the name of the place? Wait for it.... wait for it...
is Perry's.

Actually, I think somebody WAS trying to arrange a rf.net night
there at some point several months ago.
I prefer the Croxley's in Rockville Center because most of my
favorite beers tend to be american, so they have them all (like
Ommegang and Rogue beers)
Can't really call it local though, because it's not local and I've
only been there a few times!

Good call!!!
I have several local faves, depending on what I'm in the mood for:
Chinese: Big Chef, Jersey City
Japanese: Sushi Tango, JC
Mexican: Benny's Burritos, NYC and Hot Tamales, Toms River (not local for me, but that's where my boyfriend lives. We go there all the time)
Italian: I'd say Dominick's in The Bronx, but to stay true to the "local" aspect of the thread, I'll say Leo's Grandevous, Hoboken.
Indian: Saffron, Hoboken

Love that place! I used to live walking distance from the Franklin Croxley's right after I graduated college and before grad school. The place wasn't well know then (1989). Yards of beer, tons of great ones on tap, decent food. It's gotten a little commercialish these days, but definitely my "Cheers" bar. No question we should do an event there!!! And if we choose the Rockville Centre one, it's a 5 minute walk from the LIRR stop.
Cheers!

'good places you've eaten at a few times' but anyhoo I forgot to
add on Columbia Bagels. For ten years I went there every single

different folks now and nobody there remembers me anymore,
they still have the best bagels and muffins (particularly muffins
mm mm mm mm mmm) in town and I still go there every time
I'm visiting my mom.

Even though the food is kind of shitty now, they still have some great fucking coffee.
Plain and Fancy Diner in Quakertown, PA.
That place will always be mine. All the late nights of bullshitting with friends and swilling coffee until daybreak holds some of the best memories for me. Been going there for 13 years now?
Runner up to that place would be the City View Diner in Allentown where we would always frequent at least once every two months. We kind of stopped after we got chased and almost beat down by the Greek Mafia.
Coopersburg Diner in Coopersburg, PA was a favorite as well as when we would get bored with the P & F we would go there and they always had hot hostesses. My friend once farted there so loud on the booth seat it echoed throughout the entire diner. It was an old trolley car modified into the diner and the fart carried and was just the funniest thing I have eer been involved with. Afterwards the waitress came up and calmly asked if he was ok. Coffee came out my nose.

Bon Bori in Huntington Village for Japanese. The oysters in
lemon and butter are delicious. Also Japanese, Show Win in
Northport on 25A is not as pricey and they have great eel. My
husband loves the spicey tuna , the pheonix and the boss rolls.
Both have innovative and traditional sushi and sashimi. Both
serve my favorite, octopus, well.
My favorite local pie is from Timmothy's Pizza in Centerport. I
like the way they make a cheese pie with fresh garlic and
broccoli.
