I never really got into listening to Radiohead, but then I read an article on them in Blender and got a few songs off Kazaa and liked some of them. Sounds sort've like Coldplay only darker.
Is there any one particular album of theirs that is better than others to start with?

OK Computer. Hail to the Thief, their new album, rules as well. If you try KID A or Amnesiac, just be warned you might no like it at first.
There's one more difference between Radiohead and Coldplay. While Radiohead is good, Coldplay eats shit.

Here's what you need to start with, if your gonna get into radiohead.
1. OK Computer
2. The Bends
3. Hail to the Theif
4. Pablo Honey
5. Amnesiac
6. Kid A
OK Computer through Pablo Honey are guitar driven, and more dark pop sounding. The albums are well rounded, and for the most part please everyone. Its pretty much your generic rock at some points, and then some genre twisting songs occur on OK Computer. The songs are dark, but theres still light at the end of the tunnel, unlike Kid A and Amnesiac. The songs much like all of Yorke's lyrics are gigantic metaphors, which go deeper than what you may think hes really talking about. Its also probably the best bet for new radiohead fans to listen to first.
Amnesiac and Kid A are electronics and laptop computers making all the sound. Its extremly dark, songs about suicide, cannibalism and the sort are dominant on these CDs. They are reccomended if you really liked OK computer. They sound nothing like The Bends or Pablo Honey. The way to really enjoy these albums is to listen to one song over and over and try and understand it, and that type of stuff.

like how the replacements sound like the goo goo dolls ..... (sorry to be snotty)
coldplay always seem to remind me more of U2 than radiohead, maybe on more of a sensibility level .....
pick up the bends to whet your whistle, it'll serve as a primer for their other albums .....

As far as the Coldplay comparison is concerned I had only heard two songs, and they do kind of remind me in a way of them by those tracks. I had long heard that comparison before as well so that's why I said that. I'm glad to know though that Radioheads music is deeper than that.

Radiohead's songs are disturbingly deep. Most will sound like Yorke is lashing out against (insert social event here) but its really about (insert something here).

It kills me that a band can be so friggin' awesome that their later work makes a debut album this excellent into something that people somehow like to think is "bad."
It can't compare to their later stuff, but it's still a great guitar-driven rock album...almost like "elegant alternative" from the early 90's...plus it's the only album where Thom Yorke just really cuts loose vocally and shows how much he can really wail, a la Bono. Do yourself a favor and shell out for the Japanese import that has like 5 or 6 extra songs. And look for the "My Iron Lung" EP and the criminally out of print "Airbag (How Is My Driving?)" EP.
And it's worth picking up their singles...this band is pretyt generous when it comes to including 2,3 or more unreleased tracks with almost every single.

The Bends is simply awesome. Heavy and soft stuff. Ok Computer is awesome as well. After that they got kinda strange on us. The new song sounds cool. I gotta check that album out.

Pablo Honey is still one of my favorite albums of all time. The EP's Mojo mentioned as well as The bends completely do it for me and those I rock out to. Everything after I just chill to. They always eem to reinvent themselves. When i saw them on the Pablo Honey tour they rocked my ass so hard. Fucking amazing live band.
Did Coldplay just only come out a few years ago? When if irst heard them I immediately thought "Radiohead clones".
Also, as with any band, I find it always best to start at the beginning so you can feel and hear the growth of (insert band here). Sometimes, at least for me, starting in the middle kind of makes you lose your appreciation for the earlier stuff. For instance, first thing I got from Hot Water Music was their second album, Fuel For The Hate Game. Although I like their first record, Finding The Rhythms, it is my least favorite. I have had this happen with numerous other bands as well.

RAdiohead is quite outspoken on how much they respect U2 and how U2's music has influenced their work, so that only makes sense.

I absolutely hate Pablo Honey, so much infact, I didn't listen to radiohead again until I was forced to listyen to ok Computer, wich blew my mind.
I bought The BEnds second, and loved the "rock" sound to it, and then bought Kid A, wich took a little while to get use too, but after a few listens I started to "get it"
I never got into Amnesiac, I still think it is the left over crap fromKid A, except Dollars and Cents, which is awesome.
Hail to the Theif might just be the best album yet, but I might just be saying that cause its new, different, and something I have been waiting for a long time.
What ever you decide to do, listen to enitre albums, and don't try and piece it together, you will only gte frustrated to find songs that you automatically like.
Each album works as a whole, and my best advice is to listen to them as one work.

here's what i'm talking about: i've never heard a guy sing so many songs in such an effeminate manner as that puss Chris Martin. how many different ways can you whine? its pathetic, and its lousy pop music. Radiohead is ART.

Definitely give it another shot.
"Kid A" and "Amnesiac" are definitely on the same coin, but clearly two different sides. Basically a double disc released a couple months apart. I mean, can an album with "Pyramid Song", "You And Whose Army?" and "I Might Be Wrong" really be considered "left over"? Oh, and check out the live Ep they put out a year or so ago...the live version of "Like Spinning Plates" is absolutely spectacular, and there's finally a somewhat recorded version of the long-missing "True Love Waits"...
And I'm with Se7en. I'd probably die for Radiohead, but Coldplay are one of the best bands going today. Beautiful, elegant music...smart, emotionally varied lyrics...that new album is easily one of the five best of this year so far.

Thank you.
This is one of the reasons why I like Mojo. Even though are musical tastes are seemingly very different, we can come together in a moment of beauty and agree on this truth.
Radiohead is an excellent band, but that doesn't mean Coldplay is shit.

It was already one of my favorite songs on the album, but godDAMN if that doesn't end up being one of the saddest videos I've ever seen.

I have the Live album, and I love it, however, you the songs they play HARDLY sound live they do on the album... if any album shows the difference between live and studio, it is that one.
(and your right, YOU MIGHT BE WRONG is another great song, for got about that one)

as for Colplay,
they rock. And yes there are similarities between them and Radiohead, but SO WHAT??? It doesn't make them any less good.

Exactly. The popular thing to criticize British bands with these days is to say they're just "Radiohead-lite". Which to me is code for "listen to this band NOW." Because it usally means the reviewer is clueless, and if a band IS ripping someone off, why knock it if it's a band as fantastic as Radiohead? Better than here, where everyone seems to either be copying Creed, Alice in Chains or Limp Bizkit these days.

See thats funny cause Creed is a blatent copy of Pearl Jam that came out about 6 years too late. Tons of bands copy AIC, like Taproot for example. Who copys Limp? They just plain SUCK! They are a boy band for boys.

Right. There are worse bands out there to rip off than Radiohead.

You know, I don't so much mind when people copy Alice.
Except for maybe Taproot. I just can't work myself up for that.

Creed sound nothing like Pearl Jam, except in Stapp's weakass "deep" vocals. Creed is just watered-down grunge with a God-spin.
Most bands these days are just trying to sound "grungy", be it Nickleback or Matchbox 20, thinking that it automatically means good. Well, they're wrong.
And Se7en, you'd think ripping of AIC would be alright, except NOBODY does it right. They rip off the "sound", but they don't pull off any of the quality. It's too easy to just play sludgy guitar and mumble and growl a lot and THINK you sound like AIC.
And pretty much every nu-metal band is ripping of Limp Bizkit. Rap-rock bands BEFORE Bizkit...Rage, Faith No More, old skool Chilli Peppers, even KoRn...sound nothing like what's supposedy rap-rock/nu-metal today. They all go for that "guy who can't sing so he screams while a guitar riff is laid down on top of a drum beat with some random scratching while NONE of it seems to meld" kinda sound that Bizkit puked up on everyone.

KoRn's self-titled and Life is Peachy albums were very good. Lots of screaming and lots of deep lyrics. Follow the Leader just barely held my interest with a few (3 at the most) good songs in that album they went rap-rock. Then in Issues and the new one whatever its called its obvious that jonathan davis has lost his nuts. No more dark lyrics, no more screaming, the rest of the band has stopped using their talents and the only screaming jon does anymore sounds like hes a girl.
But that aside i never really listened to Radiohead...think ill start today.
