my sister went for a consultation for the surgery today, and will be having it done in the next week. so, i was just wondering if anyone has had the surgery done and, if so, whether you've been pleased with your results (and anything else worth mentioning). thanks all.

If I may add a question, as I've been increasingly interested in the surgery of late; Does anyone know anyone who has ever been turned down for the surgery and what was the reason? Thanks, and thanks to Arienette for bringing this up.

ARI - My brother had it done and loves it. He has better than 20/20 vision now, after a lifetime of wearing contacts. A friend who's an opthomologist had it done a while ago (before the current machines and techniques) and he's still plauged by halos effects and dry eyes. I think he just had it done before the technique was sufficiently refined.
Chris - I was turned down as not a good candidate b/c my vision is very poor to start (-11.50, -12.00) and I have moderate astigmatism. In the opinion of the surgeons I saw, I'd have to wear glasses even after the surgery, so it didn't pay to have it.
On the brighter side, they say that in a few years they'll probably be able to do these "more difficult" cases. Hopefully by then the success rate will improve from 98-99% to 100%.

I have several friends who've had it done and all of them are very satisfied with it. I'm considering it myself, just gotta save up some to get the surgery.

I had the procedure done about 3 years ago and I have no complaints.
I'm planning on making a short appearance tonight at Bar 9 and I'll answer all of your questions.
And Chris, you can also be turned down if your cornea is too thin. They need it thick enough that they can cut the small flap to pull up. I had really bad astigmatism and it wasn't a problem.

I had really bad astigmatism and it wasn't a problem.this was exactly my sister's situation. they told her that she has very severe astigmatism, but that it wouldnt pose a problem because her cornea was pretty thick.
hk, you might want to look into it again... the doctor told her that she may have to come back in four months for a second laser-ing (as she'll only be about 90% after the first go), and then will be better than 20-20.

I'm near-sighted in one eye, far-sighted in the other. Does anyone know if that would matter?
