I've been involved with different organizations for several years, and I've seen many of them torn apart by the politics in play. Sometimes it just floors me what people will do because of who someone's friends are or how they dress. They could be acting in the best interests of everyone, and be the greatest person to walk the earth, but someone will vote the other way for some BS reason, such as the guy has a friend they don't like or he didn't get his "cut" of something.
I've determined that in many organizations you have different personalities, and they'll clash, or work together sometimes. Feel free to add a few.
Megalomaniac: Wants to stay in power. Will step on any policy or person that may cause him to lose some control
The Nepotist: Brings in his family or close friends into positions that other people are better suited for. Usually Nepotists are Megalomaniacs that are "circling the wagons".
Everybody's Friend: If there's two people running for office, this guy will tell each one of them that he's voting for him. He doesn't want to be out in the cold, so he tries not to piss off/disappoint either party. No matter who wins, he save's face.
Stealth Policy Killer: Committees work on policies for months or years, and come back with working papers. The SPK will not give any input or constructive criticism about the policy, he will simply vote it down- usually at the behest of a friend of his, or as a gotcha to the head of the committee.
The Hanger(s)-On: Hangers-on are the people who don't want to do any work in the organization, but they're always trying to get in good with whoever has a modicum of power. Sometimes they will get appointed by the person with power and do nothing for their term in office. Close relative of the Brown-Noser.
Brown-Noser: This guy will latch onto someone and feels that that person can do no wrong. He will vote the same way and never thinks on his own. It could be because he doesn't have friends and is trying to get some, or because he's trying to ride the coat tails of the person he's brown-nosing.
God-Complex: Kind of self explanatory, but this person can be identified by the fact that he feels he can do no wrong. If there's a badge of office, he's making sure people see it. He's always making a grand entrance so that people know he's there and that they can "praise" him. Usually surrounded by a few Hangers-on or Brown-Nosers.
The Aspiring Officer: Is more concerned about that next office than the one he currently is in. Is more busy campaigning for the next office than doing the work in his current one.
The Documentor: Everything has to be written down. Usually comes in with a case full of records to refer to.
Mr. Oblivious: Doesn't go to many meetings. When he finally makes one, bogs down the meeting by asking what went on in previous ones. Sometimes he can get his information prior to the meeting, but if he asks a Megalomanic or SPK, he can wind up with the wrong info and be directed to help them out.
I'm sure there are plenty more.
