View Full Version : question about getting drunk
if say there is no history of alcholism in someone what makes someone say they want to go out and get drunk. I mean I can understand getting drunk with a few of your freinds can be a good time and all , but fun times can be had by not drinking(hypocritically speaking)

I don't really know. I don't drink.
But hey, I used to A LOT and it CAN be fun as hell. I guess a lot of people just do it to "let go."
There's alos this lie that drinking is trendy, hip and the in thing to do. So people get to thinking they can't have a good time without booze.

This explains some board members who "let go" all over our nice clean board. You're all BARACHOS. (THAT'S "DRUNKS" IN AMERICANESE)

When your young, it could be peer pressure, or perhaps getting drunk is symobolic of being a "Grown-Up". Or it could be that alcohol is really, really yummy.

OK, I am posting drunk right now, had a few too many beers at the Los Lobos/Buddy Guy show. Being drunk is not so great, however i did just eat about 5 ice cream sammiches that i probably wouldnt have if i was sober. So I got that going for me.

Being drunk is fun. You get powers.
I once shot a dart right through a buddy's hand and he just looked at the back of his hand and left it there - staring at it! Alcohol clearly made him invincible.
On the other hand, I have some other buddies who I always have tons of fun with whenever we go out. They just get me in the mood and I actually feel drunk sometimes when we dont even drink. Though drinking does usually ensue and an even better time is then had.
Personally for me, and dont tell anybody, I need a few drinks in me before I loosen up. I still get anxious at Bar 9 nights even though I met a lot of the people there already. Nothing a little Vitamin JD cant cure though.

I didn't start drinking until last December (and I'm 22!). I never drink alone, only go out to bars maybe once or twice a week with friends and only get really hammered at partys.
I'm happy with just a little buzz, gets me over nerves and shyness around some people.

in europe they drink so much more compared to the states, germany, ireland, belgium and czech republic are the biggest consumers. about 250-350 pints per capita per year compared to 70 (only figure i found) in the states
i worked in germany as a carpenter during one summer holiday, and the german and dutch guys would drink about 4-8 pints of beer each during work, this included electricians, the oddest thing was most of them did not drink in the evenings or as the weekend, it was purly non social.
also in germany there are trade unions (.g. glass blowers) that stipulate that members must have a beer quota at work
believe me, it is so much nicer to have at least some social activities that are not organised around drink
