The Article (http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/internet/06/18/download.music.ap/index.html)
Does anyone think this is a good idea? I can't believe this guy. To me it's similar to saying if your car speeds, after a couple warnings it will automatically explode. OK, so not an exact metaphor, but you get the idea. I was surprised at this:
The senator, a composer who earned $18,000 last year in song-writing royalties, acknowledged Congress...
What did he write, Morman Spirituals?

If I purchase a Cd and play it for a friend. Will they cut off my hands or my friends' ears?

Why practice democratic values when you can practice capitalism?

Now, if you give any account of an NFL game without express written consent, the Commisioner's Office will blow up your mouth.

The sad part is that this is closer to reality than you may think. Last year there was a bill introduced into Congress that would allow the RIAA to detect file sharers and hack into their computer and cause up to $4000 in damage. I never heard anything else about it so I guess it died the slow awful death it deserved.

I guess throwing due process into the trash and allwoing vigilantism just seem OK to Orrin Hatch.

Between this bill and what Micosoft's DRM technology we won't have the right to use the computer in the way we want. With current law, you can't even open up your X-Box and modify it. It would be considered a violation of the DMCA. People in Congress and the Entertainment industry don't realize it is not a fight between music pirates and copyright's owners. There is a vast in between of people that want fair use rights.

Basically, he wants to do an illegal search and seizure of your computer. He's a stupid bastard!!! Everyone go out and get Firewall software to protection yourself.

I thought I was entitled to a "fair trial." They pass judgment remotely and then want to destroy my PC without knowing who did the infraction.

That's F'ed up.

Maybe if I borrow someone's book and read it, they will want to put hot fireplace pokers through both my eyeballs.
