This thread is to organize who's bringing what to eat and drink, so we don't have a shitload of hotdogs and nothing else again.

Examples of things to Bring:
Portable Grill and Charcoal
Plates
Napkins
Burgers
Beer
Hot Dogs
Chips/Pretzels/Other Snackfood
Jello Shots
Pudding Shots
etc.

Don't be a cheap fuck and say you'll bring some paper plates, or you'll get called on it. :eg:

I'll bring a bottle or two of liquor and some chips.

not sure how you could tell if a clam is bad or not...

i would bring medium sized clams from the seafood store... small clams just don't seem worth it and the big ones can be a bit much to chew on... i'll accompany them with a bottle of ketchup, horseradish, and some lemons...

You are underage. You are not drinking.

The field next to us will be the annual Suffolk PBA vs Amityville PBA softball game. That means cops everywhere.

The fields are adjacent and we will hopefully be grilling in a couple of pits under the pavillion that they reserved (and we were unfortunately unable to get for this particular weekend). The cops will be there with their families.

I am assuming that we are all adults here, and that I should not have to say the following. However, I just want to cover all of the bases (softball. bases. I am so funny.) beforehand so that we don't have any problems on Saturday.

There will be no sketchy behavior. Period. No underage drinking, no drugs. If you plan on doing anything illegal, take a drive or a walk somewhere far away. Do not do them at the field. Don't think I will not kick your ass if you try.

Also, remember: This is a public park. Public drinking, as far as I know, is still illegal. I can't guarantee it, but I doubt that anyone is going to get in trouble for having a can of beer in the stands. I can, however, imagine that someone will be upset if there are people swigging 40's of OE or satnding around in circles doing shots of Jaegermeister. If you are going to bring alcohol (I personally plan to do my drinking aftwerwards. This is, after all, a softball game, not Oktoberfest), be discrete. I don't think anyone is going to get in trouble if they have a bottle of blackhaus in a cooler and walk over to the cooler to take a shot of it. That same bottle sitting out on the stands with people taking swigs of it indiscriminately will probably be a problem.

Another thing to consider: There is only ONE street to get into and out of the park. If you're driving, I strongly urge you not to drink. Saturday is the opening day for the Amityville beach and I am sure that the Amityville cops will be trolling for DUI's, much more so if they notice us drinking beforehand while they drive by the game - just because the PBA is there does not mean that the police will not be patrolling. I can almost guarantee you a DUI checkpoint on Ocean Avenue if the PBA guys walk into the bathroom only to find puke all over the seats. So try to be responsible about the drinking - let's save the vomiting for Bar 9 nights.

It is also important for us to show respect to the PBA guys because the Chief of the Amityville Fire Department is an officer in the PBA. If he gets irritated with us, he is the guy that is going to put on his Fire Chief hat and make us put away the grills. I can't guarantee that he won't do that anyway, but the more respectful and the bettwe we get along with him, the less potential there is for that.

The Chairman's name on the line. He pulled major strings with the town's board of trustees to get this field for us. Be respectful and follow the rules. We have to share the park with the PBA. There are far worse people to share a field with. Until we get there, we do not know how cool they will be (ie they may not care in the slightest that we have amplified music, or they might complain because they have kids there and we're playing gangsta rap. We won't know until Saturday), but let's go on the most likely valid assumption that with mutual respect everything will work out great (if only the weather will cooperate... we can't have 6 rainy weekends in a row, can we?)

Bottom line: This is a softball game. For softball, you need mitts, bats, balls and bases. You don't need alcohol. You don't need marijuana. If you DO need those things to have a good time, you might want to consider rehab. South Oaks Hospital is located in Amityville and has an excellent substance abuse rehab program. I'm sure we can get you in.

I apologize if this sounds overly harsh, but I really want people to understand how serious I am about this. I'm not trying to rain on the parade, just making sure that nobody (individuals

What about music?....is anyone brining a boombox and if so should we all bring cd's or whatnot?

I don't know who is bringing a stereo. A suggestion about music though: rather than having a gazillion CDs (which always get lost/scratched/broken) and needing sopmeone to man them, I know that there are more than a few people on this board who have mp3 players and between us all I'm sure we've probably got well in excess of 4000 songs (personally my ipod consists mostly of oldies, 80's, and a red rocks mix which is mostly rock, as well as a retardedly poppy dance playlist that's about 4 hours long and consists of everything from the spice girls to nsync to blondie to ll cool j to whatever. I'm sure other peoples' mp3 players have other selections :) ) - mp3 players are easy enough to plug into a stereo, either through an input or by using one of those cassette tape things (that I use in my car). That will probably be far far far easier than CDs.

unless someone has a stereo that plays mp3 CDs they want to bring in which case we can burn mp3 CDs which are much easier to deal with than audio CDs.

Alright, I don't see that anyone has mentioned anything about bringing a portable grill. I suppose I can go out and get one, they don't run more than $30.

Will one grill be enough for potentially 40 people? Even 30 people, one tiny portable grill is far from sufficient, no?

So, if anyone else has a grill, or can get one, I would suggest we need 2 at least...but the more the better.

Why the hell was I chastised because I "keep asking"? That
was the first time I asked. I thought you jumped all over me
before with little provocation, but I bit my tongue because
I'm tired of petty bullshit fighting on the board. God forbid I
should ask if anyone had any suggestions as to what to

By the way, I wasn't attacking you when I brought up the
fact that I was chastised. I was merely acknowledging my
mistake. I have absolutely no beef with you whatsoever, but
I'm surprised that so far, in the space of two posts, you've
accused me of being lazy, stupid, an ass, and an idiot.

> burgers - the butcher near me grounds and patties some nice burgers 85-90% lean and their huge. they have boxes(not frozen) with approz 24 in them. I'll bring one, two if you think i should.

> a case of Gatorade

> how about clams - (if someone knows how to open them) I could bring a bunch on ice. I think I have a clam knife

the official official Funkman list:

> 1 box of "freshly ground" burgers - count = 24

Maybe someone can bring the rolls?

> 1 case of gatorade - count = 24(i think, maybe 32)

> American Cheese - in pre-packed slices

> Clams - including a bottle of Ketchup, Horseradish, and lemons for sauce making. I'll do my best to open them up and if we can't open them we can throw them at each other...

The one thing I don't see mentioned it cakes or cookies, so I'll bring a variety of both. Also some harder refreshments (Johnny Walker Black for the Chairman, a couple of bottles of whiskey) and some more hotdogs and sausages (nothing better than grilled, almost burnt sausage).

I can't figure out how much water we're going to have (how much how many people offered to bring) but the wya the weather has been, would anyone object if we said something like anyone who is bringing liquor has to bring a gallon of water, too?

Or else get more people to offer water? I didn't see a water fountain by the field - it's on the other side of the field next to ours (the PBA field) so it is a bit of a walk.

Otherwise we need more people to bring water.

I will bring water.

And not to be stupid or obstinate, but can someone explain to me how there will be "no room" to set up grills at the game? I understand that if no grills are allowed, that's a different story, but I was told there would be no room. Considering that I can run this grill in the back of a parking space tail-gate style, I'm confused.

The field is in the corner of an intersection of two streets. One side is where the boat launch ramps and the main entrance to the beach is. The other is in front of condos. There is literally not a place to set it up. We intend to try anyway (probably where the cars are parked on the side of the road), but I have a feeling that if the cops that patrol the park don't stop us, the people living in the condos across the street will (because I have a feeling its not allowd however there are no signs to that effect so who knows). So since there are a couple of people bringing grills already and there are a couple of public bbq pits (legal) that we're trying to snag, I'm suggesting to you not to lug a grill all the way out from NJ. You are welcome to if you want but there's no guarantee that you will be able to use it. We will do the best we can.

This is also the reason why Ichanged my mind and I'm bringing something that isn't as perishable as raw meat. I don't want to be stuck with no way to be able to cook it.

No, we're pretty confident that we will be able to grill stuff. Just not 100%. So we don't want to end up with like 5 people who go to costco and buy 100 burger boxes and then we don't have enough room to grill them all. We're banking on being able to use thepublic pits but it will be crowded tomorrow so it is hard to say. I don't know how manye otehr people are bringing burgers too. But go ahead and bring them. We'll find a way to grill them. I was just saying that there is no need for a dozen people to lug out grills. I'll bring mine; I only live a few minutes away so its easy, and Jon & Jennie are bringing one.

The one thing I don't think we can possibly have too much of is ice. So if you're driving, maybe you can pick it up on the way... I'm going out to walmart right now to pick up a couple of $5 styrofoam coolers. I'm going to fill them with ice tomorrow. If anyone is at a loss for ice, if you're coming from the west, when you're on merrick road (you turned left on to it at the end of rte 110 and we going to take a right on to bayview to get to the field) - instead of turning right on to bayview, just continue straight. maybe half a mile further you will come to a beer distrubutor on the left and a stop and shop on the right. both of these places should have ice. just so you know.

UPDATE:

After cooking for the past four hours, I am now bringing:

One HUGE (it wont fit it my fridge :gasp:) atkins-friendly vegetarian lasagna (I used grilled eggplant and portabello mushrooms in stead of pasta, and sucralose instead of sugar in the tomato sauce)

One smaller (but still sizeable) pan of a thai-style chicken concoction

One equal size pan of jasmine rice

Two gallons of water

One big styrofoam cooler

ice (unless someone wants to bring some to put in the cooler)

Ample garbage bags

A card table to set up food on

It will be a miracle if all this gets to the game in one piece and not in the back of my car.
