Hulk is by far my favorite comic movie yet. The slightly adjusted origin story works really well, Nolte was born for this old bum role, and facts surrounding Bruce's youth are revealed at just the right pace. The fight scenes are cool too.
Still a certain scene resembled what Bret Hart would call a schmoz or Ronnie would call a fustercluck.
And while Ang Lee gives a lot to the Hulk I don't think the Hulk will give back to Ang. This is no Crouching Tiger.

can someone fill me in on how the story differs from the comic? i vaguely remember the tv show and i never read the comic so going into the movie i had no preconceived notions or expectations and i really enjoyed it. so someone let me know if they feel like explaining thanks.

I really dug it.
More than "Daredevil" and "Spider-Man".
Good stuff, good performances, great direction. Nice.

I loved it, The Washington Post can take it's pop culture hating ass and suck the hulk's green cock.
Lets start here, theres an hour of character development, and ya know what, its worth it. Its presented in a way that keeps you there, and despite the fact it drags a little, you appreciate it later on. Superman and Batman don't go as indepth as the hulk. The Hulk really strives to go inside Bruce Banner, and it allows the viewer to discover him. In Superman, Daredevil, Spiderman and Batman, you are expected to know about them and thier motives. The Hulk assumes you don't know shit, and thats good. It teaches you why he cant control it, how he feels, and most importantly what triggers it.
The Action: Superb, this movie starts rocking the casbah about the first time you see Shrek, oh wait, thats what the Fat Cats at the Post think he looks like, morons. First off the Hulk looks great, he doesnt look cartoony, and he wasnt corny. Secondly his jumping/pouncing/flying dealy, is pretty cool. At first you go, ahh gawd, but then you love it. And you know what, he did it in the comic book, suck it Post.
Ok now the real action, and i wont spoil anything. I knew this was my favorite superhero movie when The Hulk hits a M1 Abrams Tank barrel on his hand like a soccer hooligan. Nuff said.
This movie rocks, see it, and don't let the reviews sway your opinion. If i had taken thier word for it, I would have missed out on a great, fun and deep movie.

I thought it was an excelent movie. sure the begining was slow as balz but the comic book transitions were fukin amazing. The hulk fighting at night time was cool but in the day light the hulk was fukin awsome. Nick nolte was teh bomb shit, and Ang Lee did a terrific job. Marvles on the right track. Hulk was just as good as XMen 1. Its really a very good film. Its no X2 but Here is how i got hulk ranked
First Tier (Best)- SpiderMan, X2 :)
Second Tier (Good)- Hulk, Xmen ;)
Third Tier (OK)- DareDevil :confuse:
Bottom (Suk Balz)- Captin America, Punisher,

Sucked... sucked pretty hard.
I marked out for like the twenty minutes total that The Hulk
was smashing shit and terrifying people, but aside from that,
everything else bored me to death.

Went and saw it again tonight. My friend and I were leaving, and the two kids in front of us were bitching about how bad the film was. The main complaint? "What was with all that talking and shit for the first hour?!?"

well u must admit the movie started off slow as hell. and i dunno about u guys but it was too dramatic and they emphasized the story in the really wrong ways. wen i go to see comic book movies i want to b watching the comix ive read since i was young. x2 did that for me, i 4got i was watching a movie. it felt like me watching the comics. parts of spider-man did the same for me. in hulk, the only part of me that felt like i was watching the comic was the battle against the military.

That movie was total garbage.
It was boring and slow, I was so tempted to get up and leave and sleep somewhere more comfortable then a movie theater.
The CG was total crap. He looked really bad most of the time and you could see how fake it was. If you cant pull of the CG dont use it.
The talking was boring. No one wanted to see a movie with so little action. Everyone in the theater looked so dead the entire time. When it was over everyone looked so happy to pretty much run out of there and get back out into the rain. Most people seemed to be grumbling about how boring it was.
What a total waste of my time and money.

too much talkey, not enough hulkey. it started off slow, and the ending got REALLY weird. and correct me if i'm wrong, but wasnt his father just some puny abusive guy? thats what i read in issue #377 WAY back when i collected.
in all honesty, not enough time was spent on the abuse bruce took and how that was the cause of his repressed anger. the backstory in the movie was just lame. i'd much rather sit through 2+ hours of the hulk just doing whatever the fuck he pleases to whoever the fuck.

I saw it this morning. I thought it was pretty good. I loved the split screen work, that technique needs to be used more, especially in comic movies. They took what 24 did and raised the bar.
I didn't think the CG Hulk was that bad. But I can't believe some people seriously would rather see a man in green dye. The people at ILM just need to learn about texture so we don't have shiny, fake plastic Hulk next time around.
I hated Nick Nolte. He had me laughing at points. This may just be a personal preference as I've never really believed any of his performances.
But the film did leave me with a sort of blah feeling. It had nothing to do with the plot or the dialogue. I just don't know what they've accomplished and where they can go from here.
And the Hulk dogs really blew. I mean, COME ON! I was scared at the end we'd see a Hulk Iguana.

No, I must not. The best Hulk comic run was probably the ten year+ Peter David run, who dove deeper into the psychological/emotional turmoil of Banner/Hulk more than anyone else. I'm glad the movie had the stones to try and and make it somewhat intelligent, and not just "bang-bang-zoom-zoom!"

Does every Ang Lee movie have to have fights in treetops?
Over all pretty good, night fights were hard to follow and the "climactic batlle" left me a little flat.

I thought the ending ruined the entire movie. Nolte's performance was WAY over the top. I heard people actually laughing in the theater at what was supposed to be a serious discussion about the ethics of science and the morality of the military. I personally thought it took me out of the movie completely and from then on I couldn't really enjoy the film. I do, however, consider THIS use of the Absorbing Man to be a stroke of brilliance...a subtle use of a super-villian. We didn't even know he WAS a super villian until the end of the movie, which I don't think has ever been done before...correct me if I'm wrong.
I loved the Hulk CG, I thought it was worked very well.
I did NOT like the Absorbing Man CG...it looked very rushed and the time of day that particular scene was set in made it difficult for me to follow the action.
There were some plot points to figure out that really puzzled me...like why did they use a gamma bomb instead of an atomic bomb when they already knew gamma had no lethal effect on these two particular people.
Also, what happened to Twombley? Did he shoot the rocket gun backwards? I don't exactely get how he died.

hulk would continually kick things ass. thing isnt as strong as hulk, he is just relentless. thing fights with heart like wolverine. he doesnt care if the odds are against him he would throw down. thats y wolverine left hulk dead for a minute or two.

They kind of did this in X2. Yuriko wasn't introduced as Lady Deathstrike until the end. She didn't show off any sort of skills until half way through the film. However, due to commercials and media hype, everybody knew ahead of time. If you went in there completely dry, you might have been surprised.

I saw The Hulk today with my 10 and 11 year old. We all enjoyed it, but I thought it slow at parts. The first 45 minutes was crucial to the development of the character (especially for me, as I don't know Hulk mythology.)
The actor who played Banner was excellent, brooding and reeking of repression, and Nick Nolte was over the top but in a good, comic book kind of way.
The annimation was fantastic, far better than I expected and that had a major impact on the film.
Apparantly, Hulk is supposed to be indesctructable, but not invulnerable. He got a few scrapes from missles, the dogs, etc, but they healed right up. He even survived a fall from the upper atmosphere into the ocean, apparantly, going without oxygen from the ocean to emergence in the city. But why couldn't the bad guys drill through Banner's skin before he transformed? And why did he cringe and cover his eyes when there was gunfire? He seemed impervious to it. Can Hulk be killed?
Why is this considered a "Superhero" movie? Hulk was a fascinating character, (albiet with the too obvious and predictable love interest calming his rage). Certainly not a hero.
I'd really be interested as to how the movie Hulk origins and powers/abilities differ from the comic mythology. In the comic is he a do-gooder rescuing kittens from tall trees and the like (ala Superman?)
Jeff I think I have an answer to your question (I asked my son during the movie :)) Also, what happened to Twombley? Did he shoot the rocket gun backwards? I don't exactely get how he died.
I believe it bounced off Hulk's skin.

Well Jennifer Connelly was hot as usual.
Yeah, it started a little slow but as others have said it was good/necessary background.
I had a problem with the Sam Elliott character. There's no way someone who was a Lt. Col in 1965 would still be an active duty 4-star. But then I told myself, "hey...it's just a movie."

I really liked this movie. I have to say so far this is one of the best movies I've seen this summer.
I enjoyed the comic book look of the movie with the multiple things going on.
The Hulk didnt' look too cartoony to me.
They really didn't dumb down the movie either and explain everything like you were talking to a 5 year old.
I think too many people expected something like X-2 with constant action and such but X-2 was a sequel and didn't need any character development because X-1 introduced all the characters.
I really enjoyed the Hulk and came out of it impressed.

He's very strong...but not quite invulnerable. He has unusually thick and strong skin, but the main reason he seems so invincible is because of his super fast healing factor, like Wolverine in the X-Men has, but about a thousand times faster. And The Hulk DOES have "stronger" eyes, but I still think it would be a bitch to take a slug to the eyes. Natural human reaction?
And Banner can't really be killed. A great limited series called "Banner" explored this...Banner kept trying to kill himself, but realized he couldn't because the trauma of death would just kick start the Hulk transformation, and boom, there he was, back to life.

see hulks skin is supposed to be really really tough. so bullets usually just bounce off of it, however adamantium can peirce his hide. as for banner being killed, in comics he eventually took a bullet to the head while transforming into the hulk. so he had to remain in hulk form since thats the only way he could live. however the repercussion of this was that hulk kept banners conciousness in hulk form. so he wasnt just a wrecking monster. and finally hulk can and has been killed not for too long though. he got into a skirmish with wolverine and wolverine punctured hulks heart with his adamantium claws. hulk was dead for a minute or two before his enhanced healing brought him back to tip- top.
