My house just lost power for a couple of minutes due to an electrical overload. I have the air condtioning cranking, and I have the dryer going for my laundry. I didn't call anyone else in my neighborhood to see if they lost power as well. I'm wondering, how does a brown-out and a black-out work? What happens to the city's power grid? Please enlighten me.
See Ya!

I saw a product on The Chapelle Show that will help you get the brown out.

Fester's link explains it nicely.
The lightning storms this past weekend hit a few power lines (or trees that knocked down the power lines) causing blackouts in part of Nassau County. We had a 2 hour blackout on Fri and another 2 hours on Saturday b/c of this.
