Just wondering if people are still collecting state quarters. I got caught up in the hoopla when they first came out but now it's like, "It's just a quarter." Also are people still using the $1 coin that came out also a few years back?

I still collect the quarters. When they first came out I was so siked and all that everytime a new quarter came out. I dont get excited anymore at all. If I see the quarter though I give it to my dad and he puts it in that cardboard America thing you get off the TV.
And if you mean that gold $1 coin that came out in 2000(i think) my dad has a crapload of those. He doesnt spend them though, he just keeps them in this box thing he has that includes a bunch of other older and "valuable" coins. He has like an unofficial coin collection with some pennies and stuff from the real early 1900's.

I don't. I get the yealy Uncirculated and Mint sets from the Franklin Mint, so I will have them all in protected cases.
These things are nice. I mean, it's not very often that coins change their looks. There are a lot of coins in our nation's past, but they have long runs fo the most part. The Lincoln penny has been around since 1909, and only changed the wheat off the back in 1959. The Roosevelt dime has been around for decades, just like the nickel and quarter we have. The Kennedy half dollar is the same story.
So enjoy the change. But the flip side of this story is that they make SO MANY of these quarters that they'll never really be worth a lot. It's simple supply and demand. Buffalo nickels and Indian head pennnies are worth more because there's not too many of them around, esepecially in good conditions. But with the quantity of coins our mints can prodce these days, it'll be a LONG TIME before these state quarters will be worth more than their face value.

OK. I have all 50 now. Now what?
And don't tell me I still have to wait for Washington DC. I collect STATE quarters. Not District quarters. Besides, the card thingy that I have them in only has spaces for 50.

Now that I think about it, the cardboard folder thingy has to be worth at least 50 cents. I'm insuring my collection for 3 bucks.

I have about $400 in State Quarters.
Whenever I get one I put it in a jar.
I never really thought of why I do this.

a guy i work with does, he needs 2 i think to complete the set
as for the dollar coin i dont see it much and most of the time when im buying stuff i just use mt debit card, i hardly use cash anymore unless the situation calls for it
I've never bothered to collect the various state quarters, but for some reason I still save Bicentennial ones. If I get one back as change I bring it home and throw it in the piggy bank.
I have no idea why.

My wife does this, and of course I help her out. We've got 2 of each except for Hawaii, which was just released in November.
