No.

They're very good at what they do. Exceedingly good. But it's stupid to think EVERYONE will like the kind of music they put out. If you don't like them, cool, it's not your thing. But it doesn't mean they're not good at what they do. So are they overrated because you don't like them? Or are they just not that good a band, period? Odds are it's the former.

And give 'em another shot. You completely sidetracked their two best albums, the two they get most of their hype for, "The Bends" and "OK Computer", which rock their balls off. The last three albums have pretty much been for fans-only. I'd be shocked if they brought any new listeners.

But start with the first, "Pablo Honey". It's rough, but it's a great a debut and a nice rocker of an album. Next is "The Bends" and then "OK Computer". If you enjoy those, especially the latter two, I'd lay money you'd even come around to "Kid A". I've yet to encounter a single person who I've gotten into Radiohead lately that way who didn't end up at least somewhat of a fan.

Download "Just", "Anyone Can Play Guitar", "My Iron Lung", "Killer Cars" and "Electioneering". Enjoy.

music, like all art, is soley based on a subjective perspective ......

me, the sun sets and rises on the artistic endeavors of radiohead -- but, i couldn't give a flying fuck for the musical styling of the doors or led zepplin .....

although, i do believe that bill hicks could effectively prove that certain bands sucked .....

Radiohead is an artistic band. They attack an album as if it were a painting, and that means two albums should never be alike. Easily they are the most original band today, and it would be hard to judge them on two albums in thier 6 album career.

Listen to The Bends, Listen to Pablo Honey, Listen to OK Computer. Then youll appreciate Hail to the Thief.

I wasnt a fan of Kid A or Amnesiac, but i stuck with Radiohead because i knew those two albums were for the better.

Oh no they're not over-rated, roper! To signify that I respectfully disagree I have utilized a picture of a little hand giving a thumbs down next to my statement. See? No, scroll down.

The question being: "Is Radiohead overrated?" and to that I give a resounding YES. I understand it's all subjective, and they're not my kind of music, but what I refer to is having to hear over and over that they're the most brilliant band to ever exist. People talk about this band like they affect the fucking tides... Reminds me of Smashing Pumpkns in thier heyday...

EDIT: Overrated, overhyped, s.s.

You know, after downloading some of their songs of the new album, I came to a realization.

Holy shit, they went and got all fucking political.

Maybe they always were, but this is less subtle.

But this means that there's no chance I'm buying the new album now.

I'm sorry. Mojo may get mad at me for this. But I refuse to pay money for any band that's throwing their political beliefs into their songs like that. At least, not beliefs that I disagree with.

they are bar-none the best band on earth. but thom does get annoying with his politics and his views on life. for christ sakes, EAT SOME RED MEAT! balance your frickin diet! then start thinking like a normal person. and stop talking to michael stipe!

TheMojoPin

They I start caring about a band's politics is the day I want one of those big slaughterhouse bolts being shot into my forehead.

As long as they're not Nazis, I couldn't give a WHUT-WHUT.

And the politics are nothing new.

Indulge in "You And Who's Army" from 2001's "Amnesiac", which Thom has always said is aimed squarely at Blair and Bush since it first appeared in 2000.

Come on, come on
You think you drive me crazy
Come on, come on
You and whose army?
You and your cronies
Come on, come on
Holy Roman empire
Come on if you think
Come on if you think
You can take us on
You can take us on

You and whose army?
You and your cronies

You forget so easily
We ride tonight
Ghost horses

Or go all the way back to 1997's "Electioneering" on "OK Computer". A basically a big "fuck OFF" to Thatcher.

I will stop
I will stop at nothing
Say the right things
When electioneering
I trust I can rely on your vote

When I go forwards you go backwards and somewhere we will meet

Riot shields
Voodoo economics
It's just business
Cattle prods and the IMF
I trust I can rely on your vote

When I go forwards you go backwards and somewhere we will meet

Or go with "Idioteque" off of "Kid A".

Who's in bunker, who's in bunker?
Women and children first
Women and children first
Women and children
I'll laugh until my head comes off
I swallow till I burst
Until I burst
Until I..

Who's in bunker, who's in bunker
I've seen too much
I haven't seen enough
You haven't seen enough
I'll laugh until my head comes off
Women and children first
And children first
And children..

Here I'm alive, everything all of the time
Here I'm alive, everything all of the time

Ice age coming, ice age coming
Let me hear both sides
Let me hear both sides
Let me hear both..

Ice age coming, ice age coming
Throw me in the fire
Throw me in the fire
Throw me in the..

We're not scaremongering
This is really happening, happening
We're not scaremongering
This is really happening, happening

Mobiles working
Mobiles chirping
Take the money and run
Take the money and run
Take the money..

Here I'm alive, everything all of the time
Background:
The first of the children

Really, despite Thom's wishy-washy posturing, there's nothing more overtly political on the new albums than these older songs...except for the title itself. And Thom won't even be straightforward with that. Fuck his politics...gutless evasiveness is far more infuriating.

now, as I noted before, I don't care for radiohead, but you don't like them because their political views are different than yours? Holy Intolerance, Batman!

The lyrics are outstanding and all but i mainly get into the music itself(instrument wise). They have their own unique way of taking the most obscure sound and making it fit in beautifully around others.
