Not too bad of a list, but no Black Crowes? Gov't Mule?

Check out The Black Crowes Live With Jimmy Page & Gov't Mule: Live, With A Little Help From Our Friends.

But the best live, rockin', dancin', party till you drop band is The Radiators from New Orleans. A must for any live music fan.

Wow, I've seen 19/20 of these, either as headliners, part of a festival or as an opener.

Not a bad list. Don't like some bands, but agree most gave my $'s worth and more. And no, Wilco shouldn't have made it...as a live act. Their Being There tour was awesome though...

I assume others, like me, are already thinking about their top 10's or 20's....no time for me now, I'm heading to Sonic Youth, Wilco....

But thins is for sure...the best live act for me ever was Soul Asylum, pre-Runaway Train/MTV/Winona Ryder. Hands Down.

Others that come to mind in 20 seconds: Barenaked Ladies (a little gay, but I saw them in Canada and they were just amazing live), Guster (I went to college with them and for sheer fun factor they rule), The Jesus Lizard (a cathartic experience each time), and of course, the Replacements, at least when Bob was coherent and they felt like having fun and not pissing off record label "suits that may have been in the audience....

Not too bad of a list, but no Black Crowes? Gov't Mule?

Because it's a list of best touring bands at the moment. That was just a one-time-tour deal.

My vote for best touring band at the moment?

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead.

Holy 'effin' CHRIST. Talk about living up to one's name.

My all time favorite? It's too easy, but I gotta go with Radiohead. I've seen them eight times and they've yet to even a single song badly, much less a whole show. They're not afraid to switch things up, toss out unreleased songs, try different spins on old favorites, yet withOUT ruining them.

My other favorite is Fugazi. INTENSITY. A pure musical force of nature. They've actually been getting better as they get older.

I've seen a lot of brilliant shows, but I don't know if they'd fly as vouching for a great touring band. Maybe they were just "on" when I saw them.

Seems like a decent list. Surprised that PJ Harvey & No Doubt were on it. But, I've never seen either live so....

For my money, the best recent shows I've seen were...

RUSH - PNC 2002 (I've seen them a bunch of times and they NEVER have a bad show)

JUDAS PRIEST/ ANTHRAX - Roseland 2002 (Ripper blew me away! and 'Thrax are always great!)

Best Live Bands in my opinion that I have seen:

Grateful Dead - No one touches them
Phish
Dave Matthews Band
Nickel Creek
Radiohead
Sigur Ros
The Word
Barenaked Ladies (very fun show)
Counting Crows
Allman Brothers Band
String Cheese Incident (especially when they play with Keller Williams)
David Grisman Quintent
Bela Fleck and The Flecktones
and I am probably forgetting plenty of great ones.

Oh, MAN, I totally forgot about one of my favorite bands that put on two of the GREATEST shows I have ever been lucky enough to witness.

THE CATHERINE WHEEL.

Seriously, anyone who's breathing should give these guys a shot. Start by tracking down "Strange Fruit", which is the most beautifully rocking song I've EVER heard about moist vagina...and I'm a Prince fan.

I've been inside this fruit when juices flow
But the taste is just a memory you hold
There is no real decay
No feeling of the skin
No juice

Strange fruit, strange fruit, strange fruit
It never lets that sun out
Strange fruit

This is sweet the soul the flesh I wish
It's the liquid that I miss
There is no real decay
The flesh is barely bruised
It's no use

Strange fruit, strange fruit
Sonic juice inside my head
This fever is so concentrated
Oh no what a shame...

Climb the tree and shake this passion down
But this fruit won't even kiss the ground
There is no real decay
The flesh is barely grazed
There's no way

Strange fruit, strange fruit, strange fruit

Too tired to give much more thought but to add:

Wilco was off the hook amazing tonight. So they move back up as a LIVE touring act for me, never seen them so great since they toured for Being There.

Sonic Youth sucked. I saw them first in 1985 and same old shit, nothing to please their NYC home crowd, they were totally not into it, and just sucked.

Pavement was always fun cause of the random nature of their shows.

Never liked Fugazi live, not into "pogoing." Liked Minor Threat.

Two more formers that are top top tops in my book for live:

Bad Brains

Afghan Whigs.

Now it's "favorite live audience?"

Join us in 2003. It must be lonely back in 1991.

I like the small shows but of the big shows I have seen, I would have to say the mighty WEEN at the Electric Factory in Philly kicked my ass. 4 hours and they never let up.

Trail of Dead ALMOST blew QOTSA off stage. T O D was amazing though.

Radiohead on the Pablo Honey tour was awesome and in a small place. They had so much energy.

Hot Water Music playing for a hot packed basement in West Philly had to be the best show I have ever seen. So much energy and they literally played on the floor and were a part of the crowd. I LOVE that kind of intimacy.

High On Fire at The Upstage in Philly pretty much destroyed me as they were the heaviest band I have ever seen. I have never gone numb and felt like I was going to collapse becasue of the sheer heavioness of a band. Thats what 3 stacks of green Amps in a place the size of Bar 9 will do to you.

Pearl Jam was great on the TEN tour at the Lollapalooza that year. As far as I am concerned, they were done a few records later.

Jesus and Mary Chain and Mazzy Star was pretty good too. Saw that two nights straight.

Hands-down, no question, best live act I've ever seen was a band called the World/Inferno Friendship Society. The band has 8 or 9 members, the crowds are always great, and the lead singer is a show unto himself. Just amazing. For those of you who don't know about this band, you're really missing out. Check them out ASAP.

Honorable mentions include Slayer (this topic isn't complete without them), In Flames (hearing them play "Behind Space" live is akin to a religious awakening), and Pantera (gotta love a band that drinks whiskey and shoots snot-rockets onstage. Oh, and Darrel shredded like HELL).

Oh, and props to the Fugazi AND Minor Threat fans.
