The Chairman

I've tried to do my thing and hoped that with enough information, people will use their brains and figure stuff out. The best way to do that is to read and make decisions based upon on the best and latest information from people in the know.

I have read the (too many) threads about this game. I appreciate people's interest, efforts, and that many are travelling great distances. For last year's game, I would have had to travel over 2 hours, I would have, but was not very familiar with Ron and Fez, so I didn't even know about it.

Here is what I THINK you need to know:

WEATHER:
Supposed to be partly cloudy no rain. Check the weather on any of the various Internet sites if you have concerns tomorrow and thing that will be a factor in determining whether you will come or what clothing to pack.

DIRECTIONS:
These have been clear and direct since early on, either driving or by train. Too Cute has made efforts to update all on the ways to get there, based on the latest information. We are all trying to make your trip here as easy as possible.

THE FIELD and GAME:

The best way I think we need to look at this is that this is a Softball Game with food NOT a BBQ with a softball game going on for people who want to play. That's why we ordered (thanks to Jon) JERSEYS and have TEAMS. We did not order steaks or chicken as a group.

YES, we all love a BBQs, and with luck it may still happen. But due to circumstances beyond our control, we are still UNABLE to GUARANTEE that any of the Beach BBQs will available for our use tomorrow. We are also unable to guarantee that we can use portable BBQs. I can go on and on about my phone calls and faxes that started in MARCH and continued as late as today with the Amityville Deputy Mayor, Amityville Chief of Police, Amityville Assistant Fire Chief and Amityville Village Building Inspector. For a little Village I learned we have a lot of bureaucracy.....last week it looked better than today for BBQing. I guess it's a lot easier for publicly elected officials to commit to something when it's four months away than when it gets close to the date and they see how things are playing out...

But it seems it all comes down to a crap shoot: whether anyone who has already reserved the BBQ's would let us use one of theirs OR whether we will get any complaints from people if we set up BBQs ourselves in the area (this is a gray area and we won't find out until tomorrow.) We also know now that the two extra pits that are supposed to be for anyone's use are not a guarantee (since for "large events" they are considered part of the Pavilion area, which we do not have reserved (and tomorrow is considered a large event).

So what would I do? Personally I would not bring raw food that needs to be cooked. I would be understandably disappointed if I did and was not able to do anything with it. My hedge would be to bring something that we know WE CAN have, and all that stuff has already been discussed. It's gonna be your call.

I can't stress out about it tomorrow, but will try to help people out in any way I can as a "local."

If BBQ's become a reality for us, there is a Stop&Shop one minute from the field. If you want to chance it, you can see what the story is when you get to the field, then run over and get your stuff. I'm just going to play it safe and bring things that I know will be OK not matter what, cause when I get there I want to focus on THE GAME and not the cooking of food.

I hope this does not sound like I'm raining on anyone's parade. Please know that many people have gone through a lot to secure the most important thing we needed: a nice field on the beach to play a charity softball game. There will be accessible restrooms and a water fountain. Cool Ocean breezes (hopefully). Parking, etc.

Again, I know everyone is going to be responsible and we will have a great time.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and meeting new people.

If you have any specific last minute questions, IM or PM Too Cute or me and we'll try to get you the an

Bring me hot dogs.

Although any phallic symbol will do.

A simple "thank you" doesn't seem like enough, Grant.... but thank you.

And given the proximity of that Stop & Shop, sandwiches should be easily had in a pinch. That, and all the junk food we already have, should make for a nice impromptu picnic (should bar-b-que not be an option).

At the end of the day, it's more about hanging with friends than it is about what we eat, anyway.

I think we should give a short round of applause to The Chairman, Jon, Toocute, and Pantera for a job well done at yesterday's game.
