No anti-billy postings in here please.

Billy isn't making the move with the buddays. He has been there for so long and has provided so many great moments.

-He wiped his ass with al dukes paycheck
-his many appologies
-His many attempts at soberness
-Chicken parm twice
-the molestation story
-him exploding in anger many many times
-his failed standup attempt-orange ball of failure

there are so many more that i can't think of right now.
I got to meet him once, and he was so funny and really just a great guy.

he was the third member of the team and its sad to see him go...he's going to be missed

Billy... Skakles... Meatfist... 5-Letter Man... Staples...

I'll never forget:
- Billy getting Anthrax.
- The human noise-making machine. (AAhH! UghH!)
- Dressing up like a homeless guy and begging in the street.
- His legendary boxing matches.
- Human paintball target.
- Falling up the stairs on the LIRR.
- Sweaty News Updates!
- The water balloon ambush on Al Dukes' handsome carriage.
- Blaine in Bryant Park.

The times I visited the studio, you were very welcoming. You ALWAYS brought some great stuff to the show. You'll be sorely missed. I wish you the best and I hope for the best. And of course... SSEEYUUH!!!

Billy, I always enjoyed your "bits" and the role you played on the show. But more than that, I admired your courage for never giving up. Hang in there brother, and best of luck with your acting/stand up career. Here's hoping you get that role in "The Punisher", and make this "The Year of Billy!" afterall.

Billy is our Tuttle. When he said he would do anything for the show he really meant it. Who else would willingly take paintball shots to the belly?

Billy you will be missed. I hope someday to shake your hand at Bar 9.

Billy's "Out" song:

Looking back
On the memory of
The dance we shared
'neath the stars above

For a moment
All the world was right
How could I have known
That you'd ever say goodbye

And now
I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
The way it all would go

Our lives
Are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance

Holding you
I held everything
For a moment
Wasn't I a King?

But if I'd only known
How the king would fall
Hey who's to say
You know I might have changed it all

And now
I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
The way it all would go

Our lives
Are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance

Yes my life
Is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance

I haven't laughed harder than I have this past year every time Ron and Fez tore Billy a new asshole. His apologies, sermons about sobriety, the chicken parm....I am seriously worried about the show now that he is leaving. I love Ron and Fez, but Billy was a HUGE part of the humor. Who else can they cut on and have such hilarious results?
I will miss Billy terribly. :(

For me personally it was harder to listen to Billy's last show than when Rory left, sounded that way to Ron too.

It really sucks that he won't be making the move to D.C., I thought he would for sure. Billy was the center of the show, and for the last year or so has been the best character also.

Even though they've alreayd been mentioned I just want to say my favorite Staples Moments:
-Heckling David Blaine with the microphone
-Mudding on Al's pay check
-Chicken Parm 1 and 2

Thanks for all the laughs Billy, we'll all miss you a lot.

The entire old crew was great! Now, o lucky day.... here comes El Jefe and his stoned out buddies with nothing to say. The only reason Ron and Fez sound as though they like El Jefe is because they have no choice. Cam-moron Gray is El Jefe's butt connection (and Ron and Fez's boss). There's absolutely no chemistry between this new crew and Ron and Fez. We've heard them all before at WJFK studios. The less of El Jefe, the better the show will be. Let's hope some new faces show up
soon!

We'll miss you Billy.

If there is one character that Billy always reminded me of it's Ralph Kramden. Just like Kramden, Billy is a guy who dreams big, and even though he's known the taste of disappointment and failure, he never ceases to keep on trying to make his life (and the lives of those he cares for and loves) better.

It's the main reason I have come to respect and admire Billy over the past few years, and he'll be sorely missed as a part of the show.

May God bless you in whatever the future holds for you Billy. You're truly one of the good ones.

I was thinking about how to say despite how much I might have wanted to wring his neck sometimes, Billy Rocks. Well, the above is better then I can ever hope for a description. Perfect.

Billy was always cool on the phone when I started calling in. The first time I was invited on the air in person at WNEW was the night Billy put on the glad garbage bags and went out begging. So my first vision of Billy Staples was him naked except for lawn bags over him with holes for the head and arms.
The second time I was up at WNEW was the time when all the bets were going on; Billy had recently lost a spelling bee using some words I found and sent to the show. It was so cool they used my words I was floating on-air; but it cost Billy his hair; and next time he showed me his fresh paintball scars [these may be reversed; i cant remember what happened first; head shave spelling bee or paintball gun. There were bets every night then.]

He showed me the paintball holes. And lemme tell you, as much as Billy likes to embellish; i call the marks holes because it looked like someone had put a cigar out on his chest and stomach. Must have hurt like a sumbitch, and yes he whined on-air. But you should have seen his grin as he showed me the holes.

I was also lucky [?] enough to be at Red Bank. I totally lucked out on those tickets; and saw the whole thing; and I can not put into words what it felt like to be there. Ron mentioned it last night and he agreed people who were there will be saying 'I was there when..." for a while. Billy lasted about 5 minutes onstage and came back a second time and tried again and lasted about 0 seconds. But he tried to sway that unsway-able crowd. But it was Kobiashi Maru. Remember, O+A were alive and well and this was a Norton/Vos show; so the O+A'ers were there in full force. No offense against O+A, they rock, but I've seen the fans at the road shows and the only thing they Love better then Cringe Radio is watching a Cringe Live Event. Holy shit I wouldn't have even gone onstage; you could tell the instant Vos started to intro Billy it was doomed.

But you came out and did your best, Billy. Andyes, it sucked. But NO ONE could have succeeded that night. No way. But you stood there and did your best; you didnt stand there frozen and you didnt bolt. Fight of Flight; you chose to Fight. Gotta give ya that!

And yes; Billy not being asked to go Sucks. It's sinking in to me now how much Billy IS a part of the show. I use 'is' because I hope something happens...

Ron said he thinks they'll work again.

Billy says the R+F show will return to NY.

Here's hoping that both are realized.

EXCELSIOR BILLY!!!!

Very sad to see you go Billy. I honestly think you earned a spot on the DC Crew and I sent an email to JFK letting them know.

I think you should fight to the death w/ them on this and get yourself down there. The Ron and Fez show is not something you fall in love w/ on first listen. It grows on you like, ah.. mold. Before long your addicted and that addiction is based on shows staff as much as on content.

I loved your contributions, and the fact that you are an ordinary *real* guy w/ real problems and issues. Yeah it was an easy laugh to poke fun at you but it made for some great radio.

I hope JFK reconsiders. Let us know where we can send letters and post cards too.

Let me preface this by saying that none of this is meant as "bashing" Billy. I wish that I could be half of the "good sport" that he is.

A few weeks ago a psychologist(?) called in and talked with Billy about having a loser mentality, how he relished the role of victim (I think I have the gist of it there.) As she talked I thought she was making a great deal of sense. In light of Friday's revelations, I worry about Billy. Not being on the show might force him to get himself together and survive in a more structured world, or this might be the thing that puts him over the edge.

I don't pray often... but I will pray for Billy

Billy said (I think I remember this correctly) that he knew he wasn't going to be going when he saw his jobbed posted on the Infinity website. I wonder if he bothered to post for the job.

Billy, I hope that you read this. You have always been good for the show. Each time you have annoyed and pissed off the listeners it has created classic radio that will be missed as Ron & Fez move on. It is a sad day in the history of Ron & Fez. No matter what the future holds for you Billy Staples you were a significant part of something that is very special to a lot of people and the best show in the history of radio. That is something to be very proud of. Please keep us informed about any future stand-up dates. Good luck and I'm sure Ron & Fez will be back in NYC with you once again. All the best Billy. Just wanted to let you know how grateful I am for that. Good Luck with your next gig(s), I'm sure you'll find something worthwhile. BTW...I will be buggin' ya with IM! :8o:

Ron: Are they lifeguards or lifepussies?!?!

i always thought people went "over the line" with their insults and personal attacks on Billy... i would say "hey, maybe it's rehearsed or planned out" but was not convinced...

i gained respect for Billy when he fought the guy from DC(? can't think of his name) and kicked his butt. He looks to be the person who has the "big heart" and is a "stand-up" guy... he's hurt himself in the past because of his vices and liked to have TOO good of a time...

i see a little bit of Chris Farley in him...

Billy was a funny man! I diged that politcal bit he did(with the songs representing what George Bush said), cuz it was just so corny. It was funny to me.

Billy, OH Billy...
Someone please start a petition to keep my Billy with R&F. I will go door to door if I have too to get sigs. I just don't want to feel like I did nothing to help Billy stay in the game. He is like the Texas Pete on your morning eggs..there to give his own little flavor...

As good as Billy was on the air, his greatest contribution was on the phones. He knows what's funny and kept the show moving at a fast comedic pace. You could feel the show's timing getting thrown when someone else worked the phones.

Good luck replacing that, WJFK.

My favorite Staples moment was when he denyed
being kicked out of the strip club on Long Island, No matter how many calls Ron and Fez recieved, he still kept denying that it was him...........ugghhh the memories. I sure miss those guys, I havent been able to listen to the show in the past 2 months is anyone left other then ron and fez?

My favorite Billy line..."God, sobriety sucks!"

I've gone through phases of liking Billy and other times when he just annoyed me, but in the end, you could tell just how much the show meant to him. And what I admire most about Billy is that sonofabitch never gave up in anything he set his mind to. You gotta love that about him. Good luck, Five-letter man.

Billy,

You're like a hanky when my nose is running!

You know you are part of one of the best entertainment shows in history.

You got to a place most of us will never be : )

I hope you will understand how lucky you are.

I really thought the show was a power trio of you and Ron and Fez.

Actually I thought The "Ron, Billy, and sometimes Fez Show" would have been a better title.

You 3 made great comedy.

I beleive Ron and Fez will always bring back anyone they can if they manage to make it big.

You know when you're part of the band, you're always a part of the band with them.

I hope they will make it big and bring you back into the power trio.

The Ron and Fez road is obviously not an easy one.

But some of the best stories have VERY hard times in them.

Your story is also the same.

Keep at it and you will go somewhere.

You know you have to NEVER stop.

Billy, hold on because something great may still be on your road : )

Thank you for being a part of the show of life.

Just keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel.

ok?

I may not have found all your troubles worthy of airtime, but all in all, you're a vital part of the show and damn it, I'll miss ya. Best of luck to you Billy.

Billy,

I have only seen you in person a handful of times, yet I love you like a brother. I have been with you through all your crisis and antics through the last two years. I turned on the show one night
flipping through the dial thinking I just stumbled on some silly show.Out of curiosity I kept tuning in to what became an integral part of my life, my extended family. Yes, I will always love Ron and Fez, in any form of their show, but it will never again have the character, the chemistry, the magic that this incarnation had. And Billy, you were an integral part. And so this ends an era I hoped would never end. I would tune in everyday, twice when they were on twice, to hear what happened to Billy today, or yesterday, or over the weekend. His hopeful dates. I pulled for your sobriety, and continue to do so, even though I can no longer listen to you. On the fateful day that the boys got bounced from NY, I ran to Bar 9 to make friends so I wouldn`t lose contact with this cast of friends of mine. I went into BAR 9, having met noone, but recognized Billy from a picture on the board. I walked over to Billy, the only face I recognized, and he greeted me like a lifelong friend. He introduced me to the other members of the show like I was his brother and made me feel welcome. I went home that night relieved, knowing that I had not lost my friends. I continued to see my buddy whenever I could at bar 9. But now that feeling has returned . My buddies are all split up. And one of my favorite ones is going in directions I do not know. Billy, I wish you all the best in your career and also your life. No matter what happens, you will always be my buddy. I wish I could keep in contact with you. If you wish, PM me your e-mail or aim address. But in any case, good luck Billy. And I will miss you.

You two are like where the end of the rainbow meets. we see your fantasticity when it is obvious but we can only imagine the wonders that lay under the surface.
May your greatness circumvent the stench of this menyaw which is mine and may your existance rise above that which is only obvious to the naked eyes belonging to those of us who cannot see the beauty afore the blindness we so seek to overcome.

Sorry for the bump, but I was walking through the fab shop, and one of the guys had his radio on a country music station playing "The Dance", by Garth Brooks.

It reminded me that the last time I'd heard that song was during Billy Staples "farewell" show. It brought back a lot of memories.
