here's the problem:
currently i'm in a pissing match with a manager at work. he's above me, but any decisions are made by the director above him. and his director and the big boss have taken me under their wings.

this guy is a fucking moron and his ass kissing is wearing thin. he is in charge of a project that i complete weekly. he is consistently late with the directions, which are consistently inaccurate. because of this, i am getting mad overtime and the project is coming out differently from the directions but still is quality because of my liberties taken.

now they're coming down on him and he blames me for looking like an idiot in from of his supervisors. in my opinion, i am not hiding his idiocy or doing him any favors. i figure he's screwing me so why should i help him out.

so how do i protect myself? he's getting more aggressive with me and kind of fear him sabotaging my position. i do my job well, but i think he might go out in a blaze.

I'd tell the super and the director exactly as you posted on the message board. Also by telling them that if your wrong you'll offer a sincere apology for the misunderstanding but if your not...your concerns have been voiced and you may just set yourself up for a promotion in the event he does "blaze out".

If you're in good with the director and the other guy above him, then why not pull them aside or ask to speak to them privately and explain your concerns. This guy is affecting your work. You should cite examples, and if some of this guys antics are documented in emails from him then bring them along as well. I'd make it clear that you're not trying to get the guy in trouble or to make waves, but just to let them know that you respect them and you want them to know that the reason the work your doing appears to be suffering is a result of this manager.
