NYC Radio Engineer Says Goodbye - 7/1 - Pete Johnson has seen it all. Forty-five years ago, when he started his engineering job at NYC's WNEW AM/FM, he handled the microphones for "The Make-Believe Ballroom." He survived the big 1965 blackout (the FM went off but the AM stayed on), the eventual sale of the AMer, years and years of rock music on the FMer, and even witnessed the arrival and departure of "Opie And Anthony." Pete was the best!! For every microphone Opie broke, he was always there to fix it up! When he was on the air, he was hilarious!!!When I used to do catering at 'NEW during Hungerthons, he was always available to help us out; I wish him a great well-deserved rest with much relaxation, and lots of fun. You earned it Pete!!!!!!!! :)
