NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Yankees stars Derek Jeter and Alfonso Soriano left Monday's game against the Boston Red Sox after hurting their hands on high-and-tight pitches from Pedro Martinez. Jeter and Soriano headed to the hospital for X-rays.

With the infield drawn in, Pride hit a grounder to second base that Walker struggled to corral on his backhand side.
Once he got a hold of the ball it was too late, and his high throw to the plate had no chance to get Matsui.

Sox outscore them 22 to 14 and still only get a split...

I watched most of the Friday game and some of the Satruday game. These Boston fans are SO NEEDY!

EVERY FUCKING PITCH they have to either clap or boo! SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU ASSHOLES! It's so pathetic. They have to beat the Yankees SO BAD! They're so desperate to show that they're better that they hang on EVERY PITCH. Get over it. You win, we win. No one ever said the Sox suck, they just haven't played as well as the Yankees for the past few years. And that ain't NY's fault.

I don't think I speak for ALL NY fans, but it is mostly the Boston fans keeping this Babe Ruth curse shit alive, and the hatred between the teams too. Plus, this "cusre" has become more of a self fulfilling prophecy than anything if you ask me.

Pedro Martinez is a classless moron who should be fined heavily and suspended for his actions. I lost a lot of respect for him today and if he had any decency he would apologize for his conduct.

As for a little background on why Zimmer was so angry, he nearly lost his life back when he was playing minor league ball because he was beaned in the head. Brushback pitches are part of the game, but that headhunting bullshit has no place.

Do away with this foolish designated hitter rule and let's see if that coward Martinez has the balls to headhunt knowing he has to get in the batter's box himself.

You can say all you want about Clemens. He's certainly done some shitty things, the Piazza beaning being first and foremost. That being said, he's never followed up throwing at someone's head with taunting the opposing dugout and then threatening to hit others in the head. And he never tossed an old man to the ground.

And where exactly was Pedro when this brawl was going on? He certainly wasn't rushing to the aid of his teammates. He barely left the dugout, the big proud man that he is. I guess he'd rather wait till he is on the mound when he can take shots at someone's head and he has 5 teammates around him on the field to protect him.

Martinez is a dirty, classless scumbag. He trew at Soriano and Jeter earlier this year. There is no doubt he threw at Garcias head. Why? Because he was gettin knocked all all the park and was being out-dualed by Roger Clemens, Vs the Yankees, in game 3 ouf the ALCS, at home. He was subpar against Oakland in both games and in this game as well. His own fans are on him all year because he has no heart. I put Pedro right up there with Mike Tyson. Someone who cant take not being the best so he resorts to disgusting tactics to take the attention off his inability to get the job done, and take cant looking like shit, which he is. He threw at Garcias head, he told Posada he would hit him next, and he was real tough when he tossed an elderly man to the ground.

BOSTON -- Boston police say they plan to charge two New York Yankees players with assault and battery after an incident in the Yankees bullpen tonight.

Police spokesman Michael McCarthy didn't release the names of the two players.

McCarthy says a man who was seen in the bullpen in the ninth inning of the Yankees 4-to-3 playoff win over the Red Sox was a Fenway Park employee and that he was the victim of the assault.

New York reliever Jeff Nelson fought with a Fenway Park employee in the Yankees' bullpen in the ninth inning of the AL championship series Saturday night.

With tempers already high following a bench-clearing melee earlier in the game, Nelson took exception to Paul Williams, who was waving a white flag in the bullpen in the ninth inning. The reliever told Williams he didn't like it, and the two started to fight.

"He was standing in our bullpen waving the rally flag," Nelson said following New York's 4-3 win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the AL championship series.

"I told him if you're rooting for the Red Sox, why don't you go in their bullpen," Nelson said. "He jumped in my face and tried to take a swing at me."

A number of Yankees surrounded Williams, who appeared to be wearing a Red Sox grounds crew shirt, before he was escorted out the back by police. Right fielder Karim Garcia, who apparently leaped over the fence and got involved in the fight, appeared to injure his left hand. He was removed from the game before the bottom of the ninth started, and was taken to the training room with the hand wrapped.

Williams had been waving the flag a few innings earlier when Boston was trying to come back.

Red Sox spokesman Kevin Shea confirmed that Williams is an employee of the team.

McCarthy said Williams "is going to be a dealt with internally, I think." McCarthy also said he didn't think the man was arrested.

Nelson said Williams was the same employee who yelled at the Yankees' dugout during Game 4 of the ALCS in 1999 when a number of fans threw water bottles on the field following a controversial call.

"After a while, we started to remember that," Nelson said.

During that game, fans threw things on the field in the right-field corner after a pair of calls went against the Red Sox. Many members of the Yankees were on the top step of the dugout when that occurred.

"What disturbs me most is the lawless attitude here and the total lack of security," Yankees president Randy Levine said. "Just the fact that an employee jumped in, he should be prosecuted."

Garcia over reacted about being hit by that pitch. He could have been hurt, but he wasn't, so he should get over it.

Ramirez acted like a damn fool, freaking out about a pitch that was high and over the plate!

Zimmer never should have charged Martinez, but Pedro is an arrogant fuck. Zimmer should have known that charging Pedro would not lead to a happy ending.

Now, with all that said, the Red Sox are such a scrub organization, it's comical. They can never figure out a way to get to the next level. Christ, the Marlins & Diamondbacks were born in the '90's, and both have a World Championship under their belt. The Red Sox couldn't figure out a way to get it done since 1918? What a joke.

Look, as a Yankee fan, I have a ton of respect for the Red Sox, thier team unity, and their heart...

First of all, when Pedro lost control of that pitch, the bases were loaded and the Sox were already losing. Why would he hit him on purpose? And if he wanted to hit him, he would have. This guy could hit the A on the back of Garcia's jersey, so he clearly wouldn't pull a Shawn Estes and miss the target.

Secondly, Zimmer ran out of the dugout and took a swing at Pedro. If this feeble old man is so fragile, he shouldn't be running onto the field. Pedro did block the punch and push him to the floor, but he had to do something. When it happened, I literally said, "Maybe he'll die during the game like Mickey in Rockey II." I swear to God I thought that would happen.

As a Red Sox fan, I've spent a season defending the actions of my team's players. Most recently: Manny walking his home run; he was just happy to FINALLY end a terrible slump--you cant hold him accountable when emotions kick in. Now Pedro injuring Zimmer; it's always gonna look bad when you hurt an old man, but Zimmer really was otherwise gonna attack and Pedro was merely defending himself. HOWEVER, I will absolutely not defend Pedro's actions when it came to basically inciting a riot by pointing at his head motioning to Posada, stating that he would hit him next. THAT absolutely disgusted me and I fully expected him to be removed from the game for it. Well, I was hoping we could put all this ugliness behind us and resume the truly great competition that is Boston/New York baseball Sunday, but mother nature seemed to think she needed to cool things off herself, giving both teams and their fans some time to reflect and repair. It can still be a great series, they just have to start behaving like sportsmen again. (Internet Psychic---the series will be all even 2-2 by tonight's end.) Go Sox.

If Francesa starts defending him on the show tomorrow I'm gonna be fucking fuming! He's NOT a big game pitcher which in NYC equals to a being a chump. Win your 15 or 16 games each year then consistently lose in the playoffs to earn your 100 million dollar contract. He makes me sick.

i guess this wasn't addressed because it was a lie/ignorant response. I like the fact that it was reported that Karim Garcia might've been giving the guy haymakers while Nelson had him in a headlock. Class-ay.

I've been a big fan of Tim Wakefield for a while now because I've always loved knuckeball pitchers. I'm happy the guys getting some kind of recognition now because he has been a pretty good pitcher on a staff that is always described as being about Pedro. I knew Pedro probably wouldn't get a win in this series because he can't really beat the Yankees. With that said I think the series could come down to extra innings in Game 7 (with someone like Wakefield maybe getting a relief win?).

And it'd just be statistically accurate that some of the Yankee fans on the board are front-running pieces of crap. But I guess it is possible that you all are true fans. Not very possible though....

It doesn't help that in 19 innings of postseason work, The Yankees scored 1 lousy run in support. I blame mussina if the sox had scored 5-6 runs off of him, but they only scored 3 last night.

I put blame squarely on the shoulders of Yankee offense, especially the hideously overpaid prima-dona, Giambi, (And I never wanted him is the first place, I thought he was awful in the series with Oakland in 2001) and also on Management. Torre is an awful situational manager. the team from 1996-2001 managed themselves. This team needs work, and motivation, and can't lead itself anymore, and Torre and company, especially Mel, are not cutting it as managers of a team that just look lost when they come up to the plate or out of the bullpen.

I will be pissed if Jeter does not lead off today. Giambi needs to start at first, and Johnson needs to start on the bench, and just cross your fingers and hope nobody hits anything on the ground on the right side. Sierra *HAS* to be the DH, maybe Wilson instead of Soriano. Can Soho put on a uniform and play 3rd? please? Somebody call Leyritz, too...

Soriano did get a "clutch" hit which shocked me, but of course struck out the next time with runners on. You relaly cant take him out unless its late in the game. Giambi on the other hand should be replace with Sierra for one game atleast. OOOOOOHHHH nice play by Sori for the out!
