"Earth Day" : Propaganda?

Back in the 70's we were told that if we continue polluting the Earth we will all be dead by the year 2000. This misinformation was being preached by ex-hippie tree hugging teachers and it scared the hell out of us. Just seeing a styrofoam cup would cause panic. The propaganda even spread to Japan, where they produced "Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster(Hedora)". What happened? Was "Earth Day" a scam?

Seriously though this season of South Park had a great concept where the Earth Day freaks talked about how the earth is more important than you, you should die if it will save the earth, they say Republicans are the cause of all harm in the world. Unfortunately the episode fell into a Terrence and Phillip Behind the Blow episode but that segment of it with the Earth Day freaks was spot on.

This reminds me of the Carlin bit of how arrogant we are that we think we can destroy the Earth.

Obviously there is a pollution problem but not to the extent what some of these people are saying. I want to save the environment not because I love it because I want to be able to breathe.

its just another one of those things on how we dont matter we are nothing in 100 years look how we dont respect and thing befor like 1920 were nothing and only the books will live on all the old movies are fadeing and it just doesnt matter what ever you do doesnt matter unless you become a leader and do someing like a masseve war or its so stupid how people so somemuch winning cause if we die it doesnt matter

When they said those things, that was the way we were heading. Since then we have changed our ways. Look at all the good that we've done because of our awareness of the dangers of pollution. We have changed the future. We should be proud.
