"Breaking news! The 9/11 panel has come to the conclusion that lack of communication was at fault" or "the construction of the Twin Towers was not up to code" or something like that. I'm tired of all these special panels that are being put together to find the cuase of why 9/11 happened (more panels means more red tape). Who knew that some sick maniacs would think about crashing 2 planes into them? Why must we always try to find justification for why things happen? If someone falls and injures themselves in the streets...guess what, the city must have been negligent (can you smell lawsuit?). Back to my point...the only panel that I give credence to is the panel that is deciding what type of memorial is to be place on the site and what development will be on the site. The other panels that are trying to find the why, who's at fault, etc., are all a watse of time.

The 9/11 panel just concluded that 9/11 happened due to uneven cooperation. Took them like 2 years to figure this out. So where do we go from here? We have to form another panel to discuss it. (See what I mean?- more red tape).

though i agree tryin to find out what happened on 9/11 is futile, we all know, and if thats the point of this, then they should save the money. what i meant is, they may find the building would have been imporper in a fire. it wont help that now but may cause them to look at similar structures or other structures that had some of the same crews and it may save lives down the line. knowledge may seem unnessecary, but it always may be useful. so long as i dont hear the commintees took money from schooling or something to do their work, i say good, and i hope what they find can help us in the future

I've heard victims' families say that the buildings were improperly built, but I peronally would give a lot of credit to the buildings' engineers and architects. I would not have anticipated that both buildings would have been able to withstand 400 MPH impact from 200 ton plans and the fire that followed for as long as an hour.

I can't tell if you're kidding or not, but under the assumption that you're not, I'm gonna reply in two steps... First I'm gonna lower my head and shake it in pure disappointment. Secondly, I'm gonna tell you that you're insane for thinking the buiildings were "improperly built". When you build a skyscraper, the idea of a commercial jet crashing directly into it isn't really something normally factored in. In this case it actually was, but it was only designed to handle the initial impact (which it did), not the results of the 100's of gallons of burning jet fuel. No fire caused by a broken microwave or a cigarette in a garbage can could EVER get this big. No building on the planet could handle a 757 filled with fuel. Bottom line. NO BUILDING, EVER. A building made of solid gold would collapse under that much heat and pressure.

Back to the topic of committees. I've been on several committees at my work and I've noticed that:
A) the original purpose of forming the committee gets lost and the whole ordeal ends up to be a power struggle.
B) people get intimidated by other people on the committee, especially when their opinion is in the minority and are looked down upon if their view goes against the status quo.
C) sometimes people come into the committee with malaise towards the administration and feel that no matter what happens, things won't change, so they could care less.

Our intelligence centers were constantly playing catch up as to where he was located at any given time, as that he was on the move almost constantly throughout the Middle East, western Asia and Northern Africa. The much-vaunted offer of "giving up" Bin Laden by Sudan came after he already left to return to Saudi Arabia. Hence why the CIA told the Sudanese to fuck off.

Neither Clinton nor Bush had any inkling to be prepared for 9/11. Nor should they have been. You can't "blame" the security on either man or their administrations. It all is rooted in America's complete lack of non-Soviet intelligence resources even as the Berlin Wall came down, just a couple of years before the first WTC attack. Do you understand that our Middle East intelligence resources at the time amounted next to NOTHING? No deep cover agents, no significant informants or allied cells, no non-in-country agents who could fluently speak Arabic, no native Arabic intelligence hires.

We had to play catch up for most of the 90's. Everything that happened was completely new to us. The USS Cole, the first WTC attack, the embassy bombings. With each new strike we adjusted, but we had no hope except to be terribly unprepared for whatever happened next. We've been playing "clean up"-style for over ten years now, and recent news stories seriously indicate that this has changed little, if at all, since 9/11.
