Isn't a hoagie, also a sub, also a sandwich? What's the difference. When you order a sandwich in PA, they try to convince you that it's not a sandwich, but a hoagie which is better (they have you believe). But aren't they the same thing? Does it have to do with the lettuce and tomatoes? Thanks.

True. They can all mean the same thing, but being from Philly, I say Hoagie. I've learned to say "sub" up here in NYC when ordering. Although I think of a sandwhich as two pieces of regular bread (Wonder bread) with whatever in between.
Shark sandwhich, shit sandwhich.

Sandwich usually has two pieces of sliced square loaf bread.
Subs/Heroes/Hoagies/Blimpies/Grinders are usually longer breads like french or italian. They are usually thicker breads too. The bread is usually sliced down the middle but not all the way through, unlike sandwiches.
There are, however, what's called an open sandwich, which is basically one piece of bread wiht toppings. i hate it.

Dont arent heros/hoagies/subs/grinders ect a category in sandwhiches. Wouldnt a sandwhich be food in between a piece of bread? I dont htink they have to be sliced. But if they do, I like they triangle slices!!!!

A hoagie is not a sandwich.

No, because technical that would make hot dogs and hamburgers sandwiches...which they are not. It's all in the bread type. Hotdogs and hamburgers have buns or rolls. Heroes have longer breads.
But if they do, I like they triangle slices!!!!
Triangle sliced "sandwiches" are really more along the lines of appetizers, served with tea. They are not really sandwiches.

I have to disagree with that. A hot dog is a hot dog because it's meat ina casing. A hamburger is a hamburger because it's a grilled pattie.
Hoagies and/or sanwiches have sliced meat in them.
I'm convinced sandwiches and hogies/etc. are one in the same.

Those are called finger sandwiches, so they probably are sandwiches since it's in the name and all.

I actually saw a can of spotted dick in a grocery store not too long ago. Heinz makes it. I think it's a cake like thing with raisins in it.
