Are there any remakes of songs that you think are better than the originals?

Jose Feliciano's "Light my Fire" is way better than The Doors version

Metallica's "Die, Die, Die My Darling" is better than the Misfits as much as it hurts to admit

On the other hand I think that if a band/singer redoes a song they need to put their own spin on it. Case in point The Ataris/Bryan Adams. It sounds too damn alike.

The Ataris/Bryan Adams

That song was by Don Henley, not Bryan Adams. Remember, Bryan Adams sucks, and the Canadian government has apologized for him on numerous occasions.

For really weird covers, try and download the Pearl Jam cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit." It is so damn weird I can't decide if it is bad or good. As well, try Jimi Hendrix's cover of Sgt. Pepper. That is pretty good.

The two best Bob Dylan songs are All Along the Watchtower done by Hendrix and Knocking on Heavens Door by Guns and Roses. The Dylan versions suck.

REM's version of "Love is All Around" is better than the Troggs' version.

(All I have to Do is) Dream bt REM is better than The Everly Brothers' version.

I seem to like Beatles songs only when they're covered by other bands...

Aerosmiths' "come together" and "I'm Down"
Spineshank's "while my guitar gently weeps"
Pearl Jam's "I've got a feeling"
Type-O-Negative's "Daytripper, if I needed someone, (she's so)Heavy" medley

I think there are a few others, but I can't think of them right now...

Type-O also does a great 7-minute long cover of "Paranoid" that I find brilliant...

That is a great song, and the whole fashion nugget album is FAANNNNNNNN-TASTIC!

Other great Remakes:
System of a Down - Shame on a Nigga (originally done by Wu-Tang)
System of a Down - The Zelda Theme
Toadies - Where is my Mind (Originally the Pixies, both very good)
Everclear - AM Radio, not exactly a remake but they used the theme from "Mr. Big Stuff (Who do you Think You Are)"
