I wanted to know what car companies are US based? I am interested in buying a car which is American-made.

From what I know ...

- Ford
- Dodge
- Honda ( which I found out a few minutes ago online ... I thought it was foreign-made )

What else?

Basically, GM or Ford. Even though they are US companies, most or all of the car may be built overseas.

I no longer consider Dodge, Jeep, or Chrysler to be US companies, because they "merged" with Daimler, a German company. This was called a merger on paper, but when 80% of the executives are German, and not American, that's a buy-out in my book.

Honda is Japanese. That car may have been partially built here, but the company is Japanese.

GM, Ford, and Chrysler are American companies. All have realtionships with forgien car companies. A lot of GM's have Toyota parts for instance. A lot of American cars are made in Canada or Mexico and most Japanese cars are made in Indiana and Kentucky. So you're more likely to get an American made car from a forgien company. You can always ask the dealer exactly where the car is made.

umm, everyone is wrong. honda, nissan, toyota are all japanese car cos. they are assembled in the US or canada. same with most german cars, short the big 3 BMW, merc, and porsche. honda owns acura, toyo owns lexus, and nissan is infinity. 90% of cars are assembled in the US. the parts are just built in japan. as far as american companies, chevy, chrystler which is now owned by daimler which is german. oldsmobile, pntiac, ford licoln murcury, and anything GM is american.

not sure but i think you can look at the economy as a 'world economy"... you may be helping the US by buying a foreign car, it may lead to less money a foreign country has to borrow from the US, and possibly never pay back. To me it's really a very "unclear" situation figuring out where money is going.

Your best bet is to buy the most "dependable" car,(regardless of manufacturer) one with the best rating in the Consumer Report.

I've heard Toyota and Honda products are some of your best choices for the money.

Most car companies have US plants. plus, GM and Ford have their hand in everything. For example, GM owns 20% of Fuji industries, and Fuji Industries makes Subaru. And Ford owns not just jag, merc, lincoln,etc.. but a sizeable portion of MAZDA

Mini's are now German, yes. they have nothing to do with England now. An Opel was always an American company. Opel is GM overseas.
