Tally Ho!

What is the origin to the phrase "Tally Ho!"?
And I don't mean the deck of cards, but rather the phrase.

Sometimes you'll see it in a english film or someone will say it. Like "Good day, Tally Ho!" or "Cheers, Tally Ho!"

What does it mean and what is the origin of it?

Tally-ho! is the Norman hunting cry Taillis au! (To the coppice). The tally-ho was used when the stag was viewed in full career making for the coppice. We now cry "Tally-ho!" when the fox breaks cover. The French cry is "Taiaut!"


oh and I looked up coppice - it's a thicket (think woods)
