Rather than resurrect one of the older clusterf**ks of a tax discussion thread, I figured I would start a new one. :)
My checking account is sixty-four bucks heavier than usual this month thanks to W's latest foray into macroeconomics. I'm still deciding on how to use it: I'll either buy a mansion and a yacht or get three lap dances in hopes of stimulating the, er, economy.
What are your plans for your windfall?

RECYCLERZ: so you got $64.09. Have you computed the amount of debt that Bush has run up and your share of it?
And are there any conservatives out there willing to stop hiding from the issue and say realistically how this deficit will be paid off?

Of course I have! The beauty of it is I'll be dead when it has to be paid off and the young'ns (like the ones on this board) will be stuck with the bill, along with no gov't. services for all the taxes they'll be paying. It is a win-win situation. (Well, technically, it's probably a win-lose, but hell, I'm on the plus side of the equation so its all good.) Thanks Mojo, et al.!
And Tall James, you make a good point. I'll just buy two more copies of Hilary's book each month, so she stays ahead of Ann Coulter. ;p

WHERE"S THE TAX CUT FOR MY STRUGGLIN' ASS?!?
Only those who need more yachts, private jets and mansions on the Cote d'Azure get tax cuts.
What you get is the pleasure of a]watching those "tax cuts" stimulate the economy and reduce unemployment, and b] you get to pay a larger portion of the debt those "tax cuts" are causing, once fiscal responsibility comes back in vogue.
Cheerio, have a nice day.

No, you just described a political cliche. A political cliche answers nothing, raises nothing and proves nothing. It's the tool of the best (worst?) pundits around. There's nothing for us to address because a cliche brings up NOTHING.

The "why" is simple.
The rich are a major Republican constituency.
Just like what happened with Ronald Reagan, the rich made a business investment and the big tax cuts they recieved were simply a return on their investment.
And Bergalad, I don't know what you got, but I got $300. That provision was put into the "Jobs and Economic Growth" bill by the Democrats.
That 300 is more than offset by the tens of thousands of dollars of my tax money in the future that will go towards paying off the deficit.
" and they ask me why I drink"
The rich are a major Republican constituency.
There are one or two rich Democrats as well. Members of Congress and the Hollywood Left come to mind.

So? That's indicative of American politics as a whole, not just the Republicans. This is just as true with Democrats. Democrats are hardly reppin' for the poor, y'know...look at the average "net worth" of your standard congressman or senator, on either side. There's little to no difference.

Sure, there are lots of rich Democrats. I can't think of any that aren't.
Generally speaking, just as Democrats have organized labor, for example, as a basic constituency and when they are in power they are more sympathetic to their interests, so the Republicans are with the wealthy, who, like I said, got a return on their investment. They were going to get that tax cut no matter what shape the economy was in.
If Clinton were to have proposed a massive tax cut, he would have directed much of it towards traditional Democratic supporters.
