I was watching the spanish version of Family Fued before and it sounds like they're firing a machine gun when they talk. Like they're in a rush or something. I've noticed this before. I've also heard people speaking similar languages, such as Portugese and Italian, and they seem to speak at a more normal pace. Do they really speak fast or is it just because I have no idea what they're saying that makes it seem that way?

People from Spain talk normal speed like the rest of us.

It's only the filthy Spanish living on this side of the Atlantic.

Before any of you get offended, that was a joke.

it's actually a world-wide conpiracy, and americans are the butt of the joke. spanish isn't really a language; everyone speaks english.

come on, french, they're making it up as they go along.

honestly, i think they just talk fast so people can't translate them. like if they say something bad, we won't be able to catch what they said cuz they're already in the next sentence.

at least that's what i think.

"I feel like I'm Han Solo, and you're Chewie, and she's Ben Kenobi, and we're in that fucked-up bar."

Ah...the greatness of Jay & Silent Bob

People speaking fast Spanish is nothing. Ever hear a group of Jamaicans speaking English? Now that is funny.

I am, and always will be,in a state of sulky dissatisfaction.

Not only are they speaking faster than our pace, they mess up my order when I order coffee at the drive up Dunkin Donuts. I think that the majority of them are not that educated in Spanish itself, so they cover up their grammar errors with fast speaking, hoping no one notices.

Yeah, that Jamaican or Hatian I hear that sounds like French and English is particularly bothersome. Its almost like you can barely understand it, but its all mumbles and colloquial slang mixed in.

Different languages have different cadances, but I think that the more familiar you are with a language the slower the subjective speed and the easier it is to understand.

so why do people from the deep south talk so slow and make words, ie. "lemme tell ya sumthin'"

Where I live, it's the Indians that do this. I have to speak real slow and they stare right through me. Screwed up my orders so much that I don't go there anymore. I'm eating healthier, but I do miss those sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches.
