how come gay guys act like girls, and gay girls act like men? it doesn't make sense to me.

obviously i'm over generalizing here, i know they don't all act like this.

but if you are a gay man that means you like men, so why would you act like a girl when that's not what you want? shoudn't a gay guy be extremely manly, i mean that's what they want. being feminine when you're gay makes no sense to me, you would think they would be the total opposite of girly.

am i making sense? doesn't anyone care?
no? okay

there is usually a mix of "manly" gay guys and "girlyman" gay guys, the same with the ladies...

i worked with a guy at the Poggi Press in Hoboken, he was a recovering addict and he used to go to the village to beat up gay guys and take their money. Til the day came when a gay guy nearly beat him to death...

okay Bruce

What I want to know is why guys act extremely gay all the time. You dont have to talk with a lisp, you dont have to limp your wrist, and you dont have to dress in pink and rainbow colors, or make gay jokes. Ive seen gay guys that i didnt even know were straight, why cant all gay guys act like that. Why must they feel the need to flaunt their lifestyle.

I think friends have a dramatic affect on people. Originally there was this one gay guy back in the 40's who was very flamboyant, but extemely popular. Everyone of his gay friends thought it was cute and picked up his now annoying habits. Soon it was spreading thru the gay community like bootleg copies of Barbra Striesand's last concert.

Just look at blacks who move out the ghetto but once they're with their posse the kick it old school.

i always wondered that myself, why some gay people go so over the top. i came to the conclusion that all the so called flaming fags, i think they do it on purpose to shock. i work with a gay guy and if he didnt tell you, you would have no clue. so its gotta be that they just wanna make a point of either hey im gay and so proud im gonna stick it in your face, or they do it because they know it bothers people

Silent Bob you one rude motherfucker, she like to go down on you, suck you. line up 2 other guys and make like a circus seal

I think they who flaunt it are trying to signal to their kind that they are present. How else would they know? What I want to know is, are the effiminate ones looked down upon and the non effiminate one viewed as more dominant?

Interesting question, some new guy transferred into the place where I work and he is ULTRA gay, totally out there. There are two other guys are also gay but they act like regular guys. If you were to talk to them you'd hardly know it. Yet this guy is really out there. I wonder if they look down upon him for that.

I dont understand were youre coming from with this. Assuming gay people act differently, how could you possibly be different besides acting girly?

so why would you act like a girl when that's not what you want?

So if i want a girl i should act like one? I assume you act like a man, so by your rational, you want men. Help me understand where your coming from on this

I would think that a "out there" gay guy is kind of looked down upon because he needs to broadcast it to get attention, while a manly gay guy is an unknown and more sure of himself.
Im not gay, like DJEvilEd but I think that they would feel that way.

FATTY - That is a sterotype and not at all typical. Many gay men are super macho, embodying all the traditional masculine qualities, Many gay women are super feminine, with all the traditional feminine characteristics.

Just as there are effeminite gay men, there are effeminite straight men. Similarly, just as there are masculine gay women there are masculine straight women.

There are also androgynous gay and straight men and women.

Funkman had the right idea.

CANOFSOUP wrote

SNOOGANS made a similar comment.

The majority of homosexuals do not give any indication of their sexual orientation. They no more flaunt their lifestyle than straight men and women who are all over each other in public, or who frequent strip clubs, or who constantly talk about their "conquests." The homosexuals whose behavior you describe as "flamboyant" are no more flamboyant than those who flout their heterosexuality.

PANTERA wrote because gay people want to be the opposite sex.

That's not accurate. They just have their sexual desires focused on same-sexed people. They are very comfortable with their gender identity and do not want to be the oposite sex. Gender identity problems are very serious for those afflicted with it. Homosexuality is just not a big deal.

REEFDWELLA wrote are the effiminate ones looked down upon and the non effiminate one viewed as more dominant? My gay friends and clients have told me that it's much more a big deal among the heterosexual community than among the gay community. Some gay men prefer stereotypically masculine males, some prefer those who are more androgynous or feminine. Some gay women are attracted to the lipstick lesbians, while some prefer the butch type. One is not considered on a higher level than the other.

BLACKBIRD wrote I would think that a "out there" gay guy is kind of looked down upon because he needs to broadcast it to get attention, while a manly gay guy is an unknown and more sure of himself.

Gays are still looked down upon and ostracized by society (to our shame). It is much more difficult to come out and tell people that you're gay (or act effeminate) than to not address the issue and have people make assumptions that you're straight. Comming out is very hard, and I believe it takes a stronger person to display characteristics he or she is comfortable with than to stay "in the closet." One day, perhaps our society will be more accepting of gays and it won't be a big deal. It shouldn't be now. What possible difference can it make to anyone what another person's sexual preference is.

I guess technically in a "enlightened " society, it shouldnt be an issue, but we have been going back 2 or 3 steps for every forward one we are taking for the past few decades. Our technology has been improving geometrically but our sensabilities and civilized nature have been going the opposite direction. Look at how popular video games like Grand Theft Auto have been and the publics hunger for the banal and rude and you dont really have to make such a cognitive leap to see how people today have such varying views on subjects like sexual preferances. One side is happy to shove it in your face, while the other is in your face as to how they feel it 'should or should'nt be' and are not in the least worried about anyone elses feelings.

i know it's a stereotype, i'm not talking for all gays. and this isn't bashing gay people at all.

here is what i'm saying. if you're a man and you are gay, you like other men. therefore, i'm confused on where acting feminine would come in at all.

if you liked men and didn't like women, wouldn't you be more apt to act really manly, and want your partner to act really manly? i would think gay men would act the least like a woman, because women are exactly what they do not want.

that's my point. i'm not understanding where the feminine gay guy makes sense. he's a man, he likes men, therefore he and his partner should be very manly. i would think gay men would be the most manly men possible, because they are all about men.

i hope i explained myself a little better. and to all of you wondering i am gay and just trying to figure things out for myself. so blow me.
but just the guys.

Do gay guy's like Richard Simmons and Jim J Bullock act that way because they dont want any women to think they are available?

The strange thing is, now that it is getting easier to express yourself if you have certain preferences, the rest of the world is also expressing themselves and saying hurtfull things because if its free to do this, its free to do that. Thats why it is kind of ironic to me that anyone would complain, because its the attitude that allows this behavior to be socially acceptable that also allows for the rude and crude among us to say and do things that use to be objectionable when this type of behavior was less socially obvious.

People act the way they do (when free to do so) b/c they are either comfortable to act the way they wish (their innate personality), or b/c they have been socialized to believe that the way they act is the appropriate way to act.

I subscribe to both theories but in this instance lean towards the "nature" side. As I noted above there are MANY effeminite heterosexual men and MANY masculine heterosexual women.
