While other NHL teams go after the top free agents and make moves to make their teams better, we re-sign Mariusz Czerkawski, a guy who was demoted to the Canadians' minor league team after we traded him. I know the dynamics of the NHL salaries will change next year, but for god sake can we get a real free agent to play here? Please!

Things are worse than you think, as the NHL just limited the height of goalie pads. Snow won't be allowed to wear the leg pads that shield his eyes anymore. The height limit will now be 38", and the width rule will remain as well. Let's hope for offense in the league this year.

Fear not fellow Isles fans. This will surely be Milbury's last year.

Hockey is doomed. Expansion, no major TV deals, outrageous salaries - things are going to change for the worst very soon.
Hockey fans in the US are some of the most passionate fans of any sport. Problem is...there just isn't enough of them to allow them to compete with the other "Big 3" sports.
There's only 2-3 teams that can afford to throw big salaries at players..and you see how well that has worked out for the Rangers.

Giguere's in trouble too. His pads were very tall as well.
As for the Isles - yeah, Milbury isn't very much help.

its a fuckin shame too because its more exciting than all of them. with all the entertainments in hockey, it should be the most popular sport. the fuckin people who run it sometime around the first lock out just totally fucked everything, and now no one watches it. it will unfortunately be defunct most likely in a few years. thank god football's coming
Silent Bob you one rude motherfucker, she like to go down on you, suck you. line up 2 other guys and make like a circus seal

First off, the NHL will not fade away. Yes salaries are too high at times, but teams and the CBA will adjust. Like TJ stated, US hockey fans are passionate, and Canada makes us look bad. They have hockey on their currency for crying out loud. We don't have baseball on our 5 dollar bill, or even Babe Ruth. Hockey always operates in over its head and manages to stay afloat. Just look at its past with league consolidations, team moves and bankruptcy issues.
As far as its popularity, I hope hockey never gets like baseball and makes terrible moves to satisfy the outer rim fans vs. the purists. I like the fact that most hockey fans have a good feel for the sport and actually understand it. Even the girls who watch it, actually like and understand it. It has its own unique culture and feel that I wouldn't want to jepordize with being a top two major sport. Even if football has done well, it does have too much individualism and conceit. Hockey is a pure team sport with humble athletes who always defer the praise. Except dickhead Brett Hull.
C yah!

Eh...theyre not so bad, theyve got some really good young talent between Okposo and McDonald and Comeau and Tambellini...I think Mark Streit's pretty good.
It also doesnt help that Rick DiPietro can't stay healthy and now has to have surgery on BOTH hips....oofah
If they don't get a new building soon, this team is going to move....its that simple. Kansas City and Vegas and Hamilton markets are too viable

1. they cant move till 2015 due to a locked in lease.
2. they are breaking ground on the Lighthouse project after the season according to all reports.
3. If the Lighthouse falls through, there is a back up plan to build an arena in Suffolk. So, they ain't moving. Long Island would never allow it.
Yes, they stink but they are finally rebuilding the right way. They are taking the Penguins and BlackHawks route. I know fans bitched about moving down to get Josh Bailey but stock piling picks and prospects is smart. Once the team gets better and the Lighthouse is built, the top players will come.
No one wanted to play for the Penguins. Once they got Crosby and starting playing good, everyone wanted to play for them.

Ill believe they get that new arena when the first game is actually played there...same with Pittsburgh (even though theyve broken ground there). I hate the Islanders, but there's no way I would ever want them to move...there's way too much history with that franchise to move it away from there, and I can't imagine an NHL without the New York Islanders

I tis just painful to watch another NY team that can not get good managers from top to bottom. This is such a bum organiztion and all that dumb ass can think of is that lighthouse project. This team stinks, and I dont just mean the players.

Garth is doing the right thing. Last time they picked a coach from the AHL was Peter Laviolette. and hes won a cup with the hurricanes. Gordon has the same pedigree. THis time they wont let the players run the asylum. Id rather suffer and watch the young kids to help us become good then overpay for vets just to get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs each year. Penguins did it, so can we.
