Every time I watch a movie or TV show, when they show a night scene with cars driving, the streets are always wet. And it's not even raining. Car chase scenes, wet streets, etc. Anyone know why this is?

the roads are wet cause its alot easier to drive hard and spin a car fast without risk of flippin it. its just easier

smoke and fog, and this part is an educated guess, probably comes because the road has been covered with cold water and when the ground is cooler than the air it fogs

Dunno. Along the same lines (and yes I'm stealing here, but it's still true), why in movies/tv does it always thunder and lightning at the same time? AND how does every hotel room in Paris have a great view of the Eiffel Tower?!

As far as NYC goes, there IS often 'smoke and fog' on the streets at night (during the day too) because of all the steam pipes we have busting leaks all the time. I had a friend visiting me from Wisconsin once and we were out in Times Square at night and came across one of those big orange and white chimneys they put over steam leaks/construction.
"Wow! I thought all that smoke was just in the movies!"

Why does Yonkers after a rainstorm always smell like a stinky vagina?

In Hollywood, reality is out the window, especially in an action flick w/car chases.
Most everything done in the movies is done to achieve a specific look or vision of the director. Some directors think car chases look cool w/wet streets.

Why is it every time there is a street scene in NY City, you hear sirens and horns honking? And why every time you see a dock scene, you hear the hoot of some steamer and the toll of a bell bouy?

It only happens in NY.
In Cleveland they don't have steamers.

The sirens and horns honking is pretty accurate, IMO. It's true in all cities, but I don't know why it is used exclusively for New York scenes.

Martin Scorsese does his scenes in the rain to make the street lights reflect. He thinks it looks beautiful.
