Cops summoned to House Committee (http://www.msnbc.com/news/940963.asp?0cv=CB10)

What a bunch of babies these people are. All of them. Throw each and every person involved out, is what I say.

Now THIS is embarassing for BOTH sides.

Yeesh.

Though then again, I AM always far more entertained by the British Houses and parliament, and this sounds like a typical day for them...

And before any bitchy little finger-pointing starts popping up, I think this said it best...

"I've been here nine years, and this is one of the saddest days we've had in the House," said Rep. Ray LaHood (R-Ill.). "What has happened to the Democrats is shameful; it's embarrassing to our party. I'm sad for our party, and I'm sad for the House."

High, you can quit with the president bashing. He isnt making these decisions all by himself, hes just the one there to blame when intelligence fucks up. Its not his fault we went to war with iraq, its not his fault republicans were elected for everything and pretty much control the government. And he sure as hell isnt responsible for this, *sarcasm*SO STEP THE FUCK BACK BITCH.

On that note, the domcrats need to suck it up and get there shit together fast. And i think Mojo's quote summoned the whole thing up as well.

Huh? Wha?
It doesn't take puppets or puppeteers, but leadership to keep the party in line.
And MOJO, what about that "uniter" promise? Care to discuss it like an adult, or do you have a comic strip that'll do the talking for you?

...weekend warrior

Good! Someone else noticed it too then!

Just did a little backchecking of a dozen or so threads, and found posts by me on the 2nd, 3rd, 11th, 15th, 16th of this month, all weekdays. There's probably more.
I could give you exact times and threads, but I don't have the time right now. Well, actually I would do it, if, say, you'd send a coupla bucks per weekday post I cite to charity. You can take it out of your tax cut money!
Ooops!
Touch a nerve, there, Bunky? Sorry about that.
MOJO, usually your research is a bit sharper than that.
What happened, is it all that gash you've been cutting lately?
Damn, and you had to go and waste your "weekend warrior" and "buckaroo" lines making such a flawed argument! Tsk, tsk, tsk.
And is there some special cachet to posting during the week? Got a comic strip to reply with?
And speaking of research, hey BERGALAD, have you found one, just one case in history where the economic growth stimulated by a tax cut was greater than the amount it drove the deficit up yet? Still waiting on that one.
Us old farts recall Reagan promising that his tax cuts would lead to such growth that the deficit would be wiped out in 2 years or less.
Us old farts also have the advantage over you young bucks of seeing Reagan's budget director, a feller named Stockman testify before Congress and expose the fraud of this economic theory.

He's not a fucking recess monitor. You're talking like that "promise" indicates he'll suddenly fly in and stop EVERY single case of Democrats and Republicans disagreeing. This is the ONLY time an incident has happened like this on a FEDERAL level while he's been in office. This is like calling Bush out on promising to "fix" the environment after an oil tanker crashes...essentially implying that HE should have been at the wheel to stop it personally.

True, but this is the only time in history that one party tried to arrest members of another party in order to get an unanimous vote. The least he could do is speak out agaist this.

Now, how's about telling us all how Bush has fulfilled his "uniter" pledge?

Well he's given into the Democrats on domestic programs (see education, the farm bill, Americorps, and racial preferences.

It's an easy question: has he done what he said he'd do, or not?

Yes he's made overtures to working with the Democrats.

No because as a "conservative" he's increased spending and increased the size of government.

Yes. Look at most significant federal policy passed between 9/11 and the start of the Iraq war. The Democrats and Republicans seemed more than willing to vote in the same direction. Hell, the fact the authorization for the war passed by so much indicates a buttload of "uniting".

And what do you want? You have a habit of posting in sudden bursts on the weekends after long periods of silence. Deal with it.

After seeing the way that Clinton and Reagan worked with Congress, the current president doesn't even come close. The impression that I've gotten is that he's more of a hardass ideologue.
I would not use words like "compromise" and "cooperation" to describe the way Bush has worked with the legislative branch.
As for posting on the weekends, sure, I often find more time then to do so, and also hope you saw my glee at shooting down that "weekend warrior" stuff. When "dealing with it", I just hope you're chuckling as much as I. I still don't understand why it ever became an issue in the first place.
Twice now I've asked about it and twice you've dodged the question. Hey, you brought it up, MOJO, I'm just trying to get some clarification.

I just don't understand why it ever came up. What was the point? If you go back, it looked like it was made for laughs, as if weekend posts are somehow less gooder than the ones during the week. Is it somehow better to have your posts spread out more or something?
Sometimes I get on and just don't feel like posting my comments, so I'll scan a bit, then log off.
Other times, I have something that faintly resembles a life and so I don't have time . So how is it that this is a reason to club?
By the way, the original "weekend warrior" point was wrong, as I proved.
My head hurts.

"Weekend warrior"?
HA!
The "buckaroo" line was the good one. Too bad both were wasted.
Here's a few random quotes for you from "the Uniter" on uniting, and his perceived role in government, since that has been brought up in rebuttal:
"Our nation must come together to unite" (June 4, 2002)

"The legislature's job is to write law. It's the executive branch's job to interpret law" (Nov. 22, 2000)

"I am mindful of the difference between the executive branch and the legislative branch. I assured all four of these leaders that I knew the difference, and that difference is they pass the laws and I execute them" (Dec. 8, 2000)
(presumably a solution for the rancor in the Congress)

The point of my original post was that if Bush had kept his word and worked to eliminate the sharp divisions in Congress, then this disgusting display would not have taken place.
I hardly imagined he'd go down there and referee.

Would you agree that Congress is at least partly responsible for this partisanship? The Democrats ran the place for 40 years and being in the Minority is something that have trouble accepting -- especially since they were unable to recapture the House in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002.

Leadership on both sides (Gingrich, DeLay, Gephardt and Daschle) were divisive figures and often played partisan politics to get things done -- or stop things from getting done.

Oh sure, AJ, I'd say they are largely responsible.
The immediate blame here rests with the party whips and other leaders.
Bush made a dumb promise and this occasion was a nice time to bring it up.
The momentum for the current deadlock has been building for many years and the ones that suffer are you and I.
