I was talking to one of my friends (she has a boyfriend) and she noted that I am rude to her sometimes (ex. like not calling her right away when she calls me, to Drop what ever I'm doing to hang out with her, stuff like that). I'll admit that I did like her at one point, but I'm over that. When she doesn't get her way or something she gets really mad and calls me things like "you're a jerk" or "why are you so rude to me?". We've been friends for a very long time and have gone through moments where we haven't talked to each other for a long time. So why is it that MOST girls expect guys to be nice to them and if you're not then you're considered a JERK?

You gave the example of One person who acts like this-then say Most girls actr like this. Second, to generalize like you did, if someone is not nice to me, well then, what do you expect?

Well, usually you are friends with people who you like and get along with- thus defines the word "friend." In my experience, friends are "nice" to me and respect me. When people are not nice, then they are not a friend, and are excluded from my life. It's all about respect.

To echo some of the sentiments above, why would you limit your query to just women? Men like to be treated nicely too.

And what's the deal with referring to women as "gals?" That's pretty disrespectful towards women, although I'm sure you didn't intend it as such.

It may not be dead, but I find it being slowly killed. I take the bus to work. It is usually crowded and for years I would offer my seat to a woman if they were standing. More and more my offer was turned down. Not by a polite "No thank you", but with a "get away from me" no. Even a few "No, I don't think so." Only one have I ever been thanked, and that was from an older woman. Now maybe I've just been unlucky, or maybe I've just gotten creepy looking, but now I don't even offer (unless it's grandma or preggers).

I know most women would appreciate the offer, but those with the attitudes should just be wrapped up in a carpet and tossed in the river.

Furtherman - The woman who don't talk to you or look at you when you offer them a seat, may have had bad experiences w/harrassment (especially w/public transportation) and developed a strategy of avoiding all conversatons no matter how inoccuous.

I also offer my seat to the elderly and to the more disabled, and to pregnant women. If they don't accept your offer, or even ignore you completely, you still get the "credit" for being a nice guy, which should make you feel good about yourself. In other words, don't be mad at them, be proud of yourself.
