Well theyre saying theres an %80 chance these dead fuckers are Uday and Qusay. A third person is believed to be the 14 y/o son of Qusay. Yippy!!

This happened in Mosul after we gathered certian intelligence causeing our strike via small arms. That is all.

How's about the story?! Here ya go:

Saddam's Sons May Have Been Killed BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. soldiers battled Iraqi gunmen inside a suspected hideout of high-ranking members of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s regime Tuesday, killing four people. Officials in Washington said they were investigating whether the dead included Saddam's elder sons, Odai and Qusai.

The stone, columned house in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul was left charred, smoldering and partially collapsed with gaping holes in its high facade after the firefight.

Members of the 101st Airborne Division had surrounded the house, which belongs to a cousin of Saddam - a key tribal leader in the region - when the fighting broke out in the city 280 miles north of Baghdad.

The officials in Washington, who spoke on condition of anonymity, gave no further details on the investigation.

The United States has offered a $25 million reward for information leading to Saddam's capture and $15 million each for his sons, where were also top leader's in their father's regime.

They should bury them with their dicks in their own mouths.

I was surprised they were still in Iraq to be truthful. Why wouldn't they escape to Syria, Iran or whoever would take them? Maybe the security was too tight? Maybe those countries thought better of taking them in?

Whatever the case may be, I hope they suffered for hours watching their own precious life blood slowly ooze out of their bullet wounds.

now torture them...

I believe it's a "better off dead" situation. Maybe the Iraqi citizens who were "on the fence" as to whether the US had truly removed the regime, thinking Sadam and his sons may return one day, will now believe they can achieve a new system of government and will be more supportive of the US.

Supportive in rooting out the terrorists that hide within the community.

I was thinking that too. I'm just worried that the announcement came too soon. They kept saying it would take days to identify these clowns, and then the announcement comes a few hours later. Well, it sounds like there's an Iraqi out there somewhere who just won himself $30 million.

The reason they were still in Iraq is 2 fold: Dad believes he IS Iraq, and that without him, Iraq will disappear. Unlike Osama, who wields power thru a network that spans the globe, Saddam has no power anywhere but Iraq. That is, no one fears him anywhere but Iraq. He and his family are safest there.[/list]
Most important now is that the Coalition follows through on the reward promise and publicizes it throughout Iraq. Once they hear that it was not a false promise, theyll Dr0p a dime (or their equivalent) on Saddam pdq.

Let me say this first: These 2 men did god awful things to men, women and children. In no way, shape or form am I defending them, nor standing up for them.

But is it really necessary to post pictures of them dead? I believe it's vulgar and demeaning to the regular people of Iraq. I think in a war where the US throws around mentions of breaking the Geneva Convention and showing pictures of captured soldiers towards the Iraqis, as well as dictate what is shown on tv to the US citizens for censorship and harmful images; Is it not absurd that we flaunt these pictures in victory in front of our enemy and their oppressed citizens? What kind of example does that set for them....or even our own nation?

This is a unique case here. We're not talking about ordinary soldiers or civilian dead being exploited --- we're talking about two men who terrorized and brutalized a nation. Convincing the citizens who suffered under their rule for so long that they are truly dead is important for helping Iraq move into a post-Saddam era.

Am I the only one a little pissed off that they're dead? I mean, better dead than free to continue their reign of terror, but they got off way too easy considering all they've done. Chainsawing people's limbs off and raping newly wed brides doesnt deserve death... it deserves retribution. Refer to torture threads to see what these pricks shouldve gotten.

Again, I am the voice of reason!

No, it's not absurd, and we're hardly "flaunting" the pictures as you say. Even if that was a valid criticism, you should be blaming the MEDIA such as CNN or FoxNews, who pretty much spent all day yesterday with the photos plastered upon the TV screen, rather than the government.

Pictures of our dead soldiers were shown on Arab TV (Al-Jazeera and others) for propaganda purposes. To show the Arab world that Iraq was kicking the ass of the Great Satan.

We posted pictures of the Hussein boys / offer videotape of their corpses for the simple reason that no one in Iraq believed they were really dead until we offered firsthand proof.

Of course, there are plenty who STILL don't believe that these dead bodies are Uday & Qusay, but still - there are some who have seen / will see photos & video of the corpses (media personnel are being allowed to see the bodies today, if I'm not mistaken) who will believe that they are indeed the Hussein kids and will realize that, at the least, those two bastards ain't coming back to plague them.

It's repugnant that we have to do this, but unfortunately it was necessary.

Yes, you can blame the media in some respects...but for the most part it is commonly recognized how they would react towards such an issue. And the US is flaunting this around....Bush himself made several snide comments and remarks regarding it and their deathes (not particularly very civil of any leader to do so either). Just in the same manner as the US found it vulgar and awful for Iraqi's or Middle Eastern media to show pictures, images and such for propaganda, don't dillute yourself into thinking the US doesn't use the same tactics, cause they do (and it's after scolding the "evil doers").

Btw, everyone throw a party...our leaders in Congress are going on month long vacation. Atleast it's officially said that nothing will be done; compared to when they are there and get the same outcome.

God knows there's enough combat in the world to create such a channel and the corporations who run the networks would love such a thing. No more of those silly un-interupted broadcasts, they can get all the commercial time they please. It can also help the government too. Lack of interest on the citizens....do you think they'd be tuning into un-censored programming? FCC and government would run which combat to show. Only show the "good guys" kinda deal. It can help to further warp our citizens into beliefs, info and give them a new outlet to receive violence from. At the end of each battle, they can also have soldier of the battle awards...onlining polling and such to keep people "involved".

I'd be up for watching this on the big screen TV. Hell, I'd even crack open the good single malt scotch to celebrate.
However, if we were to let this happen we'd offend the sensibilities of the 98% of the observant Muslims that we're supposed to be signing up for our side.

The problem with war nowadays (and Particularly this war) is that the objectives are so fine and specificly drawn that the military and society at large can't afford to be sloppy and let our atavistic ya-yas* out. Being a metaphorical adult sucks. :(

Simple. The death of these two wackos is a victory. A victory for Iraq, for the world, and of course Bush. Some people can't be happy for any action that makes Bush and the Republicans look good. It's a strange, sad position they have put themselves in: they root for the US to constantly fail so Bush will fail. They are in effect hoping for catastrophy for America solely because Bush will be blamed. Sad, pathetic people.

Johnny wade...your comment is based on a silly assumption. It's not very difficult to understand. If you ask and expect others to hold to certain standards (like showing pictures of dead, etc), it would be expected and respectful to abige by the same.

Se7en, I've said this previously. I am not a negative person. You may perceive and acknowledge my thoughts, ideas or beliefs as such, but in fact, I talk and believe to build and make the future a better place for everyone to live in. Recyclerz put it best, in my opinion.

It's a great thing that these guys are dead.

BUT...why does it seem like we're going to such lengths to piss off the people we're helping or want to show that we're not such bad guys? Showing the dead bodies immediately post-battle was one thing. But showing the bodies after they've been sliced up and re-painted will essentially cheese off any even remotely devout Muslim.

Look, any one of you may not give a shit about Muslims or their beliefs...fine. Nobody's making you. But an issue constantly being brought up by people who want to feel this war was justified is that they feel safer because of our actions in Iraq. Yet the war on Iraq is supposedly part of the war on terror. Yet pulling shit by showing these guys all painted up and sewed up is golden material for people trying to recruit terrorists or people on the fence as to whether or not they were going down the terrorist path. Be honest...these two are scumfucks who deserve nothing except what they got, but really, what did they do to US? It would be a shitty, shitty thing if the way we treated their deaths ended up causing more American death and suffering than these two cunts could ever have hope to have done in life.

This isn't an issue of people having to be sensitive or PC here. Say whatever the fuck you want. Feel what you want. I'm saying our government fouled up in showing the bodies post-autopsy. I could be wrong, I hope I am, but for now, it doesn't seem like it was the best move to make.

We killed two well-known bad guys. This will no doubt anger their supporters who already make up part of the active resistance in Iraq, but it's not the type of thing that turns fence-sitters over to the dark side. So if it pisses off the people who are attacking our soldiers, who cares? They're already carrying out attacks, so, if anything, it may end up making the attacks more predictable, (trying to make attacks look like retribution). Of the rest of the Iraqis, there is a segment of the population that have been worried about retribution from elements of the regime while the US still hasn't been able to maintain security. For them this is reassuring, and may gain us somewhat more cooperation. For the bulk of the Iraqis who just plain hated the regime it will, to some degree, reenforce our commitment to destroying the regime, something that the interrim authority hasn't done a good job of demonstrating to the Iraqis so far. As for the rest of the Arab world, just like Saddam, these clowns didn't have a base of suport outside of Iraq, so there's not going to be any tears shed for them. It will be spun in a negative way in some elements of the Arab press, and positive in others, but it won't have a significant impact. In general, I think the airing of the photos is of minor significance, and will have a minor positive impact in general. Sorry to word anyone to death. I promise I won't link to the pictures of your corpses.

Because they wanted to go to their uncle's house to get bombed. Ba dum bum.

So if it pisses off the people who are attacking our soldiers, who cares?

Because the larger "war" we're fighting now deals with irrational enemies who don't fall into the traditional idea of how an enemy is "supposed" to act or respond. This goes well beyond anything we've done or will do in Iraq, yet the scope seems so fucking limited to JUST that. We don't need MORE terrorist fodder just because somebody has a hard-on for Iraqi corpses.

Again, I'm glad they're dead, people SHOULD celebrate. This is just another case where something started out making sense (Convincing the Iraqi people that these two dicks couldn't hurt them anymore) that bulldozed quickly into inexplicable global broadcasting (Pseudo-gloating?) in a time where EVERYTHING we do is being ultra-srutinized by EVERYONE in the world. Go ahead and pretend that "they" don't matter, but it's stupid shit like this that's going to fuck us over in the end and undermine anything we try and do now.

Shut the fuck up and go to aol if you want to carry your grudges from thread to thread.

Mojo. What I'm saying is that given the nature of these two fuckers, I don't think there is anyone who is going to miss them that isn't already a part of the active resistance. So I don't think this is a threat to our soldiers. I think this can only be considered a benefit, however large or small. There could be something I'm missing about this, but I just don't think that Iraqi and Arab opinions of these guys is all that ambiguous.

I totally understand what you're saying, but I'm just worried that since our main threats these days are terrorists, who seem to thrive on false martyrs, lies and exaggerations, it should encourage us to NOT feed their bullshit. We're really not doing anything wrong here (I don't see the need for the footage on any TV's other than the Iraqis...and HOW are they watching these with most of the country still blacked out?), I just think we're not thinking as to how it can be twisted and misinterpreted. Yes, it's a shitty way to have to think and act, but I just don't see any other option...

Ah, fuck it. Terrorists REALLY piss me off. They've even got me going with these kinda head games...fuckers.

YD is correct on this. The death of the two boys has opened the floodgates of information in Iraq. Today informants assisted in the capture of 12 of Saddam's personal guard and also led to the discovery of a bunch of TNT and SAMs. Mojo, the US didn't want to display the bodies, but so many people in the media frankly said the pictures were not real that we were compelled to display the bodies. It is not the best way to go, that's for sure. However, the Administration is doing it's best to convince everyone (who can be convinced) that the boys are dead. I understand Muslim "sensabilities", but also know criminals are routinely publicly beheaded and stoned in Islamic Law nations. This isn't much different. Many Iraqis wanted the bodies hung in the city square, so I think that Bush is being as delicate with the situation as possible.

Se7en, I've said this previously. I am not a negative person. You may perceive and acknowledge my thoughts, ideas or beliefs as such, but in fact, I talk and believe to build and make the future a better place for everyone to live in. Part of change, is acceptance and understanding of problems that exist.

Whatever, dude. You can be more negative than me sometimes, and I'm a pretty fucking negative person.

We used to publish pictures of bad guys all the time.
John Dillinger laid out on a slab comes to mind...

In this case we didn't really need to do so, as the bastards who were supposedly led by the Husseins in attacks on U.S. troops, admitted that we'd killed them in their appearance in the Arab media swearing revenge.

I wonder if anyone thought to pose the boys in the "69" position for other photos...

Gosh, fellas, I don't know what got into me. Maybe it's the punchiness from quitting cigarettes, trouble with the girlfriend, or simply impatience, BUT I MISSED A RARE QUINTAFECTA!
Damn, it's like having a full house in your hand, but only seeing the pair.
What they should have done before taking the photos, is not just pose Uday and Qusay in the "69" position, but throw in the 14 year old son of Qusay and pose them in a "daisy chain".
This gets me to my quintafecta:
1) Threesome
2)Pedophilia
3)Homosexuality
4)Incest
5)Necrophilia
And there you have it, the rare quintafecta.
Thank you.
The more "tasteful" photos could be released to the mainstream media, while the more explicit ones could be leaked out every now and then as a reminder to potential terrorists what could happen to them should we catch them.
Our covert operators could put up posters in $elected areas of, say, Islamabad, Pakistan, with the caption: "This could be you!"
